Will an impressive record on Yahoo! Answers be something to include on a resume?
I answer lots of questions in the Computers and Internet section. I always try to give specific and detailed answers that not only tell the asker HOW to do something, they educate them as to WHY it works that way. Do you think this will be something to include on a resume if applying for a job somewhere at a computer place? If so, does Yahoo provide any way to save your records to a file on your computer? That would be very nice... :)
Thanks all for your quick responses.
No, I'm not doing this just to have something to put on a resume, I'm not even job hunting just yet. I answer questions on Yahoo Answers because I honestly like to help people. Just ask the folks I've done IM walkthroughs with - I'm not in it for the points. I realize however that I have a ways to go before my record is "impressive" :) It was just an idea that hit me like a lightning bolt. Since I'm relatively new here - do they delete questions after a set amount of time; after they get [so] old?

Probably not at the minute- you aren't a top contributor and have only been a member since November so I doubt they would find it impressive that you have spent 2 weeks on a computer answering a few questions.
Perhaps in a few months you could apply if you are still an active user but at the minute if I was an employer I would think you were only doing this as an excuse to put something on your resume!
EDIT- questions are automatically deleted after a year

A few employers may see that you answer questions on the computer site as useful in the resume. But as another answer said some may see it as wasting alot of your spare time on the internet. Its a grey area I think.

If this is a serious question, I wouldn't. It would look unprofessional. An employer is not likely to care about activity on online communities.

I suggest you DON'T - because the employer will likely see you wasting your time on Y!A and chewing IT resources instead of actually WORKING. They will yo uas a risk instead of you are knowledgeable. Anyway - there is NO proof that what you answered was all correct and reliable.

traditionally it is not done , but the world is changing. i suppose you could add a line about tutoring. teaching anyone through whatever method is good in that it helps you keep sharp and reinforces things. it is also obviously valuable to the person getting the wisdom / teaching .

It sounds nice in theory, but realistically I think you'll have your back up against it to appeal to an employer through including such unorthodox 'work experience'!
That said, we all appreciate your time & effort on here so please keep up the good work :)
Happy job hunting

You could list it as a hobby, I guess, because you are helping other people out in that area.

No, because this is not official "work."
