Hi, from Northern Ireland, what age are your pupils?
If teenagers, there is a book called "The Twelfth day of July" by Joan Lingard (a kind of 1970's Belfast Romeo & Juliet), or a film called Children in the Crossfire. In reality, although most of us will have lost someone during the troubles, any book, film etc given the very nature that it wants to sell will be sensationalist. In my experience things were fairly mundane, and you learned to live with things like secirity checks going into shops (think a watered down version of todays airports), or the army road blocks on the way to a disco

Political Violence in Northern Ireland: Conflict and Conflict Resolution by Allan O'Day or Political Conflict by Jonathon Tongue...2 good books. I also recommend some of the works by Conar Cruise-O'Brian, esp some of the works he did between 1970-1994.

in actuality bout 0.5 of Northern eire are catholics and wanna be seperate from Britain and the different 0.5 are protestants who wanna be slightly of england. So quite theres no uncomplicated answer to it without frightening one ingredient of the argument. The IRA choose to be seperate so by the 70's to ninety's did a load of terrorist assaults yet that has supsided over the previous decade so this contemporary attack is slightly suddenly. in fact the protestants in Northern eire wanna be slightly of england so it is not merely a case of england being hellbent on protecting incredibly eire.

My Left Foot - film with um, oh can't think of his name!!
There is also one with the Birmingham 6 around too.
Loads of folky songs too which my granddad and dad used to sing - prob best to google them (the songs, not my family!).
Just make sure you don't romanticise it, nothing nice about it, just murder and stupidity.

I think the movie "Michael Collins" with Liam Neeson addresses this, and "The Devil' Own" with Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford.
