Story from Asimov?

I am looking for a story from I. Asimov. It circled around three different humans/creatures looking for the reason of life. In the end all three became one living being. With all their knowlwedge this was the ulmitate creatre. Can anyone hint what the title could be? I assumed it was something like Luna but cannot find anything that matches.

    The story is in "The Gods Themselves," and the plotline you mentioned was in the second part. I enjoyed that book!
