anybody speaking Irish/Gaelic here?
I am a German teacher of English, and I want to introduce a unit on Ireland with some Irish words... Can you please translate the following into Irish for me: "Good morning! The topic of this week will be Ireland, one of the most beautiful countries in the world"
Can you please add a phonetic transcription, so that i will be able to pronounce the words and a word by word translation into English. Thanks a lot in advance

"Dia daoibh! Is í Éire a bheidh mar ábhar againn an tseachtain seo, ceann de na tíortha is áille ar domhan"
Approximate pronunciation: "jeeya deev! Ishee Aira an tawver a veh-ug-ing un choctin shu, kyown de na teer-ha iss awlya er dowan". Don't worry about trying to get it exactly, there's a lot of variety in Irish pronunciation!
Word for word translation? Bear in mind that Irish syntax is very different from other European languages - here goes:
Dia = God
daoibh = to you
Is = is
í = she
Éire = Ireland
a = which
bheidh = will be
mar = as
ábhar = subject/topic
againn = with us
an = the
tseachtain = week
seo = this
ceann = one
de = of
na = the (plural)
tíortha = countries
is áille = which is most beautiful
ar = on
domhan = world
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pacito: hope you take these corrections kindly:
(1) "Dia is nhuire" - I assume you mean "Dia is Muire" - this is usually a response not a greeting.
(2) "an seachtain" - "seachtain" is feminine so it should be "an tseachtain".
(3) "thuithe" - as far as I am aware there is no word like this in Irish (except perhaps "tithe" = "houses")
(4) "is ailinn" - in all dialects, "beautiful" is "álainn" and "most beautiful" is "is áille"
As I said, this isn't to put you down! They aren't small mistakes though so I had to offer these corrections

A Ghearóid,
<<Sa sean-litriú, an scríobhfainn "A Dhonnchaidh..." ?>>
Ar dtús scríobh mé abairt nó dhó a rá nach ndéanfaí é sin. Ní chuala féin riamh fuaimniú mar sin, agus shílfinn go bhfanfadh sé sa chaint fiú i ndiaidh don chaighdeán teacht i réim.
Ach rinne mé cuardach agus tá go leor samplaí dá leithéid sa tsean-litríocht. Tá "A Dhonnchaidh" ceart. Is dócha gur sampla é sin den dóigh a bhfuil athrú ag teacht ar an teanga faoi láthair agus ar na mallaibh.
Sin giota beag oideachais domsa! GRMA!

A Dhonncha, a chara
Aontaím leat go ndearna Pacito an-mhaith. B'fhéidir go raibh sé ag smaoineamh ar 'tuath' nuair a scríobh sé 'thuithe' ?
I agree with you that Pacito did very well. Perhaps he was thinking of 'tuath' when he wrote 'thuithe' ?
Ceist eile duit. Sa sean-litriú, an scríobhfainn "A Dhonnchaidh..." ?
Le gach dea-mhéin, - Gearóid
