miles or $$?
I'm getting ready to book my hotel and I have a choice of paying an OK price or getting almost 5000 award miles on my airline for $300 more. Do you think it will be worth it?
Thanks for all your help. I tried to book the hotel today & it looks like the offer is gone. I guess they only had a few rooms avail. for this offer.
I'm a member of Borders Books Rewards and one of their perks is a rebate with Hotels.com. I booked through them & sending the form.

$300 for 5000 miles = 6 cents per mile. To decide whether the $300 is economically a bargain, you need to check your frequent flyer program and see how many miles are needed for a flight you want to take. Then find the fare for that flight if you were to purchase a ticket. Do a bit of math to determine exactly how much each mile is worth. Divide the fare by the number of FF miles required to determine the worth of each FF mile and compare that rate with the 6 cents per mile rate. If 6 cents is less than the value of your FF miles for redemption, you may want to buy the miles - or contribute it to charity as someone else has suggeted - but if your FF miles calculation comes out to less than 6 cents per mile, I wouldn't bother. Also, you can now buy "hybrid" tickets which let you use fewer FF miles by paying a small additional fee.

NOT! Do not pay USD300 for 5000 miles.
Usually most airlines will allow you to buy between 15000 to 40000 miles per year at USCENTS2.5 to 3.5/mile.
Here, as explained before, you would be paying more than 6cents.
NOT worth it.
Plus with USD300 you can fly today about the same 5000 miles, but actually enjoying the flight!

$300 for 5,000 does not seem like a good bargain.
A free flight in the USA is 25,000 miles. If you paid $300 for 5,000, would take $1,500 for a free plane flight in the USA. If it is $300 more for a much nicer room with miles as a bonus then I would consider it.

If you travel alot I would take the miles...I feel the price of airline tickets will be rising soon cuz of fuel prices

Donate the miles to a child who needs cancer (or similar) treatment and then deduct from your taxes.
You both win.
