credit card problems?
i tried to order something through Paypal (which i do all the time), but the transaction didn't go through and it said that my card was denied by my credit card issuer. I didn't cancel my card or anything and i don't think i went over my limit (though i can't remember what my limit is, since it's a starter card and may be lower than i thought). But if i did go over my limit, what do i do? If i pay it off, will my card get turned back on or would i have to get a new one? And if i didn't exceed my limit...?

Many credit card companies allow you to go over your limit by a certain percentage, and as long as you pay it off before your billing date, you won't be charged any extra fees. This is sometimes the default setting on your card because having one's card denied can be embarrassing. Either way, you should check your statement and see what it's at. If you're near your limit, you can pay it down even though it's not time for your statement to come, and then make the transaction when the payment to your card goes through.
Also, you should read up on your own credit card, because you're using it with little clue as to how it works and that's kind of troubling!
P.S. It might also be fraud protection, as mentioned above. Call your credit card company.

Maybe since you are new they don't know how much you are going to spend on an average month. Also if you have been in several different towns they will turn it off. It looks like someone took your card and is going crazy with it. Most likely it is fraud protection. I've had that happen a lot. If it is that you went over the limit you need to pay the min payment and enough that the over the limit fees don't make u go over next month.
the answer to all your questions is just a phone call away. I never get a card unless they have 24 hour service.

First, either go online to your credit card company and logon to your account or call the number on the back of your card. Either way, you'll be able to find out what your limit is and what your balance is. From there, you just either bring your account current or pay down the balance below your credit limit and you're good to go charge again. You should also be able to pay your credit card online and/or through the phone straight from your checking account.
Better than using the credit card, if you're using PayPal, just have the money go from your checking to PayPal and you won't have to worry about the credit card.

Normally when this happens it is one of three things:
The address used online does not exactly match the address on the credit card statement. For example Ceder Lane vs. Cedar LN are not the same thing.
Card as been used a lot lately or the purchase is large and the credit card company wants to verify this is a legitimate transaction.
Could be, as you mention, over the limit.
In any case you can call the number on the back of the card and speak with customer service to resolve.

What do you mean by starter card? There are prepaid cards out there, which would give you a "credit" limit of the amount that is prepaid- this could be your situation and could have run out of credit. Also it could have been a really low credit limit on a regular card (a couple hundred dollars) and it's possible when the merchant charges your card, they authorize more than the purchase amount, in which case, that total could have surpassed your limit.

If you have exceeded your limit, it just means that you won't be able to buy anything else this month. Next month, after you pay, you will...
but, of course, sometimes they block it when they suspect the transaction is not being done by you, but by someone else who stole your credit card.

do yourself a favor and just cut it up! U in the long run are paying more on the item than U think. Credit cards bad use your debit/checking credit card, uses money u have and does not cost u extra in the long run. If you dont have the cash, do not buy.

Ummm, instead of coming to yahoo answers, call your credit card. Your card could be locked down because of theft or suspicious activity. Call now!
