what causes my car to vibrate and shake when I'm going 60mph? It doesn't shake until then?
When I let my foot off the gas it stops

Since it stops when you take your foot off the gas, I'd say its the bearings in your U-Joints/Front axel (Depending on the make/model of your car).
If it was consistent no matter what you were doing with the gas, it would be a wheel balancing issue.

I just had this same problem after hitting a curb. I messed up my rim and my tires went out of alignment. In addition, I bent my right front tie-rod. In my case it started shaking at 45-50 mph.
Are you slowing down when letting off the gas? In my case, when I let off the gas and slowed down, the shaking stopped.

don't listen to dan and peed - Josh is probably right. If it were wheel balance, it would be affected by speed only, not throttle position.
The other possibility is that your engine is misfiring at that speed when on the throttle, but if that were the case you'd notice a power drop off, which you didn't mention, so it's probably not it.
Give Josh the 10 points.

Most likely the wheels need balanced. Even if its not, thats where you have to start. Check for a bad belt in a tire.
If it persists then it is probably wear in the tie rods, idler arm, or pitman arm. If it has rack and pinion, it might have excessive wear. In rare cases it in 4WD or front drive the CV joints could be bad.

you either have a cylinder that is missing a piston going out or is out or you need your tires balanced........get in to a shop or your favorite mechanic asap you could blow your whole engine and then you Will be spending big bucks even if it is just the tires because that can cause massive vibrations that can break things you need under the hood
