When do you stop chasing your career and start enjoying life?
I was raised to go to school and get a good job - keep acquiring more so I can help my family. I'm addicted to work, sounds stupid but I have to excel at what I do and that prevents me from truly enjoying life. So I'm curious are you chasing your career still and if not, when did you decide that other things were more important.. and HOW did you transition into that new mindset? How did it affect those around you?

A paraphrased quote for you:
"Those who seek security find it, and little else."

Well, I never chased a career, nor money, nor security. I was brought up by an older father who was a minister so his life was not about money and my mother was just about being a loving mother and wife. So the result of that is I have never had much money, but I did have a marriage and family, but my husband became an alcholic and I became a nurse. My kids both have talked about balance and what is important in life and they make a little money and enjoy a little money. I just try to be true to myself and feed my mind with lots of good stuff and you will always be so much happier when you are doing for others. Paid or volunteer. Go work in a shelter or battered women's home for just a few hours to get a start and see how it works. I'm proud of you and I don't even know you. But I do know you in spirit and that is what you are trying to get at, spirit. here's love to you

I am a Nurse. I neither do it for the fun, nor do I do it for the money. I like to joke with others and say that I do it for 'Humanity'. Dumb, eh? What's a 'career'? I went into Nursing because I enjoy helping and doing. The day I start to hate what I do is the day upon which I give it all up and start My retirement.

I am pursuing a career as a psychotherapist. I love the field and I am excited about it, but I also feel like I have missed out on being a kid and having fun. I just hope it all pays off in the end. I have a lot of schooling left ahead of me.
