Yes, the iPhone will auto-detect all wireless connections and give you the option to connect to them, similar to your laptop. Once you have connected, it will remember this and auto-connect the next time you are in range of your wifi. This is free and will not cost you anything.
If you are not in range of wifi, then it will connect to AT&T's data network for internet connection.
