In Europe, german is also the language in Austria, parts of Switzerland and in the north of Italy (Südtirol). The most people in Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and so on are able to speak german, understand it. Much more than 100 Million people are speaking or understand german

Therefore all movies and soaps from other countries are dubbed. It´s very expensive. Small countries don´t have the money for that, therefore they have subtitles.

We´ve some voices, which get eminences. At example the voice from Alf, John Wayne, J.R. Ewing and else.

Only Arnold Schwarzenegger is real, he comes from Austria!

American movies that are exported to other countries are either dubbed, subtitled or just left alone, depending on the culture they are going to. Although many Germans speak English, especially the younger people, it’s still easier for most to have Bruce Willis speak German. In other countries (Holland or Denmark for instance), the citizen’s language abilities are even stronger or people are long used to subtitles, since that was always the way their stations aired imports – it’s a lot cheaper than dubbing.

But of course English is the most widely spoken language in the western world. It’s the language even Europeans use as the common ground for their communication. So Americans have the advantage (AND disadvantage at the same time) that they don’t really need learn another language. They’ll be understood almost anywhere just using their own. But even if they were so ambitious to learn a second language, Spanish or French would be a much better choice than Danish.
