Christians, do you believe in election, or free will, and why ?

Update:

Hey! foxtrot, This is a Bible question, not a political question. Don't feel bad, it happens.

I believe in monergism over synergism in salvation. We had nothing to do with our salvation, it is all a work of God. We do not choose Him, He chooses us. We do nothing to gain salvation or make ourselves worthy of salvation. In our natural state, we are dead in trespasses and sins. A dead person can do nothing, so a spiritually dead person can do nothing of a spiritual nature. It is God who awakens us from that dead state, indwells us with Spirit, gives us the faith to believe and considers us forgiven and justified by the death and resurrection of Christ. There is no free will in salvation or justification. Ephesians 1 and 2 make this abundantly clear.

    Rom 8:28 But we know that to the ones loving God all things work together for good, to those being called according to purpose;

Rom 8:29 because whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, for Him to be the First-born among many brothers.

Rom 8:30 But whom He predestinated, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Do you see us doing anything here? He predestines, He calls, He justifies, He glorifies. It is all God, not of us.

And to those who use John 3:16 as their proof text, investigate what the Greek rendering really is. The word "whosoever" is not in the Greek, they do not have that word. The Greek reading of this verse is:

"In this manner God loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that all the believing will not perish, but have eternal life."

Boy, have you stirred up a hornet's nest here or what?! You know the Church is almost equally divided between the two positions. Calvinists believe that God has chosen certain people for heaven and damned others to hell. Calvinsts also say that those who believe that God has sovereignly permitted us the choice of believing in Him or rejecting Him are denying the sovereignty of God.

The truth is God has given every human being the choice to believe Him or reject Him. "Whosoever (whichever soul) believes in Him shall NEVER perish but shall have eternal life." (John 3:16). I thank God for that word "whosoever". I have exercised my franchise and now I am a member of his sovereign Kingdom.

If you look closely at Arminianism, Calvinism, and Pelagianism/semi Pelagianism, you'll see that free will has to do with the ability to look to God for salvation, not whether we can make day-to-day decisions that don't have to do with that salvation. Arminianism is what many if not most Protestant denominations teach, and this theology involves depravity but not total depravity.

It's agreed that everybody has the free will to make bad decisions that lead away from God. The difference is whether that we can make that choice for God, Arminianism supports it, Calvinism denies it, and both will give you plenty of scriptural references to support those beliefs. Each one involves an a priori view filled with Scripture passages to support that view.

You have to understand that the free will theology of Arminianism leads to many logical problems that Calvinism avoids. However, due to these a priori views that Christians will have, you will not convince either side that they are incorrect. Arminians are okay with "it's a mystery" and "it's a test," with a God who offers and hopes for all of mankind to come to him, and a God who humbles himself. Calvinists are okay with "automaton" mentalities that allow God to guide the footsteps of both the elect and the reprobate, and a God who is sovereign.

I'll call myself a happy robot since I'm Calvinist.

    yes

I believe in elections, because they actually happen. I choose not to participate, because I do not believe the propaganda that has been foisted on us that says "If you're not a part of the solution you are part of the problem".

I believe, that if you do vote in elections, you, are a part of the problem. How do I qualify this?

Well, we all know that our governments are corrupt, and no amount of voting will ever change that. So, if you vote, you are saying that, you think you can change this. Also, if you vote, you are saying in effect, that you actually trust other men, to protect you, to look out for your best interests. Basically, you are saying to the mountain like institutions of human governments, "Cover me from harm" *

It is also treason for a Christian to vote. Why? Because Jesus, who is the ruler of God's Kingdom already said, his kingdom is no part of this world. That means, that any person who is looking to a human government for laws, protection or moral guidance, has in effect turned his back on God's kingdom.

Free will? Yes. Why, because it is an incontrovertible fact.

We all make decisions every day.

When the Bible speaks of those who were 'fore-ordained', it never speaks of personal names in regards to God's kingdom. It therefore signifies a class of people who will meet the call. The ability for God to know the outcome of our freewill decisions is not that hard to fathom either. If a person uses alcohol excessively, and then drives a motor vehicle repeatedly, even us humans can predict the eventual outcome.

Quelle(n): * “And the kings of the earth and the top-ranking ones and the military commanders and the rich and the strong ones and every slave and every free person hid themselves in the caves and in the rock-masses of the mountains. And they keep saying to the mountains and to the rock-masses: ‘Fall over us and hide us from the face of the One seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, because the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?’”—Revelation 6:15-17.

    Yes....

Election, free will & predestination are 100% Scriptural

    Read Romans 8:28-30

Our free will & God's sovereignty work together. No one knows how....it just does.....and I trust Him by faith

Well, here I go again, and some will surely disagree. I will tell you what the Bible says and that GOd has revealed to me by the spirit.

YEs we have free will, we can choose to believe or rject God, and we can choose to obey and believe as God commands, or we can reject that GOd gives us the precious gift of choice, But we are each accountible to GOd for the choices we make. He has given us a Holy Bible to tell it all, and if ppl wont read it, or wont belive it , or obey it, then dont blame God. This ol world is coming to an end soon, and yes we will all receive great rewards for choosing for Jesus Christ, or horrendous curse for not receiveing Jesus into our hearts, but noone can blame Him, its alll choice, and God must deal with those that reject Him. What would HE do, let them in Heaven with the rest of HIs true saints, and allow them to do there what they do here?? I think not, wouldnt be heaven long, huh?

No, on this election, predictination thing. I tried for years to understand this and i prayed and prayed. One day God began to give me visions and dreams and made it so clear.

WE are all called by God, Few will come and of those that do, even fewer will hold onto their free gift of savlation, becuase they refuse to obey Him.

The ones that will step into obedience will become like Jesus. How did He stay perfect/ HE walked in perfect obedience to the Father and we are commanded to do the same thing. When we do, the Lord is able to work with Us and truly make us like Jesus and we will be saved. We cant do it on our own, only by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the desire to only OBEY as well as Love God.

Those who will do this will be saved, and God already knows who they are. WE are the chosen few. Did HE choose us over others? OF course not. But we are the few that truly Chose Him and followed Jesus to obedience. This in churches today is very unpopular. I teach it and I know the fallout, but it doesnt matter> I live for God and HIs word, what others think does not matter to me at all. God calls us to hear and obey, its not just one or the other, its both. obedience produces blessing and disobedience brings curse. YOu cant call yourself Chrsitian if you refue to give up sin and follow Jesus. you can believe in GOD, but not be Christian. Thats what being christian means. A FOLLOWR OF JESUS CHRIST> you can be religious and do all kinds of things. The ones that answer the full call are the elected, as we choose Him but He always knew who would and yet He still gives us all the chance.

Its like somone says I am mormon, but I dont believe in the book of Mormon or following it/ Ludicrous. How can you be mormon if you dont believe it and live it? YOu arent.

Same with those of the Chrsitian faith. The Holy Bible is our only book to guide us, its all we need, and if we wont believe it all and act on it, we arent following Jesus, not my words but His. By the shed blood of Jesus on the cross, HE gave us the ability to say no to sin and to overcome by the indwelling of the Holy SPirit. SO few will hear that, let along just do it. Easier to keep one foot with God and one foot with the world. Will not work, God says He will say I KNEW YOU NOT.

This is a very important last day message as these teachings are almost lost. LEts bring them back and we will be blessed. to overflow.

i believe that the omniscient God i serve knew whether we would freely choose to follow His Son, Jesus

because "God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life"

Quelle(n): it goes deeper than that, but that's my short answer

    hello...how have you been?

    I have to say both

    because I practice both

in these times it's hard to know who is who

what a person really stands for

    I am pro life

prayer and listening for the voice...

    the heart of God <><

  • vor 1 Jahrzehnt

Both. God calls some into ministry. That doesn't mean all follow His voice.

Both, you can exercise your free will to make yourself available for whatever God would desire for you to do (be elected). Or you can choose to sin and serve the devil... and whatever he would have you to do.
