"Kid Nation" any parents would allow their children to participate?

Where did they find parents to allow their kids to be on this?

Was it about "making their kids a star?

Update:

ONLY ASKING... WOULD YOU ALLOW YOUR KIDS TO DO THIS.... and /or What are the motivations???

Update 2:

NOT COMMENTING ON CBS!!

Our newspaper had an article about the local kids who were on this show. They said that despite the show being promoted as "adult free," there were, besides the camera and production crew, a doctor, nurse, and therapist on staff. The "adult free" aspect comes in because the kids were not given any advice or instruction on their activities. They were supposed to complete several things, like run two businesses, etc.

The parents said that they have been getting a lot of criticism for allowing their kids to do it. One parent said her daughter begged to do it. I don't remember if the article mentioned how the kids were found or how much they were paid.

Personally, I would never allow my kids to participate. I would not trust that they were being taken care of properly (would the producers allow a "Lord of the Flies" situation develop, or would they intervene?), and I would not want to be completely cut off from my kids. My 8-year-old son would never do it anyway, but my 6-year-old daughter is the type who would love it. I am still interested in watching the show- I was a sociology major and experiments like this are fascinating to me. But personally, I would never allow my own kids to participate.

Wow, I wonder how many more questions are going to be asked over this stupid show! It's the same question every day. First off, the show has already been filmed. How do you think they are able to show us previews? You think they just threw these kids into the wide open alone? No, of course they didn't. There HAS to be adults around. Secondly, parents can not take all the kids money. There are laws that say that the parents have to put the money into a trust fund for when they become of age. Too many kids in the 70's got ripped off by their parents to do that now. Thirdly, if you don't like the idea of this show then don't watch it. If CBS doesn't get enough ratings they will cancel the show. It's already filmed though. People need to stop being so darn naive, they cannot throw these kids into a "ghost town" and just leave them. The medics, director, camera men, and all the other odd jobs that go with producing a show like this are done by ADULTS. It's not like the kids are all alone. Of course they are going to show the drama part of the show because that's what draws people into watching it. They aren't going to show them all laying around doing nothing. Nobody would watch it then.

i dont see what all the fuss is about, the kids are not totaly adultless, they ahve camera crew and i'm sure other adults to watch their safty...its like a summer camp without planned activites, the adutls sit back let the kids work to build a city its not like they just play all day and im sure they would step in if needed. no big deal

NOPE MY KIDS WONT AND WE WONT WATCH THE SHOW FOR THE REASON OF CHILD ABUSE AND THEM KEEPING THEIR PARENTS AWAY FROM THEM WITH NO CONTACT AND NO STABILITY . I HEARD THIS IS A BOOT CAMP AND THAT IS WHY THESE KIDS WERE DOING THIS AND IT WAS FILMED AS A REALITY SHOW . IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN I MIGHT CHANGE MY MIND BUT NOT IF WHAT CNN AND FOX ARE REPORTING NO WE WONT PARTICIPATE OR WATCH THE SHOW AT ALL...

No- I wouldn't let my kid do that. For one- I could NOT go 40 days without seeing my kid and at the same time knowing that the kids were all on their own?? There's no way.

No I wouldn't. They probably thought it was something interesting that children would like participating in.
