Am Curious...Why do so many people here write "God" as G-d?
Is it against the rules to write God as God? At first I thought maybe some people just couldn't bring themselves to spell G O D because of their own beliefs or non-beliefs, but, I've also seen it on some of the sites about Judaism...
Just curious...anyone able to explain? (Thank you)

What lilmissykato said is the basic answer, a carry-over from the Hebrew Testament practice, for instance, of saying "LORD" (Adonai) instead of pronouncing YHVH, in order to avoid ever taking God's name in vain.
For some people, it is also a reminder that we can never really grasp G-d with our created words and mental concepts. It's a form of reverence, a humility.

sure in an English examination you're estimated to apply complete and splendid English, keep away from abbreviations, different than people who originate interior the Latin, consisting of e.g., i.e, and confirm that each and anybody sentences are totally and grammatically written. If besides the undeniable fact that, you're quoting from a text cloth wherein an abbreviation is used, then the abbreviation is suitable see you later as you clarify or make it sparkling which you're utilising it as a quote. i'm uncertain what you advise via G-d, i'm assuming you advise God, wherein case write God. there is not any longer something incorrect with scripting this, it isn't any longer a swear word. EDIT: i grew to become into no longer responsive to the religious context for this spelling. i think of you may desire to talk on your English instructor approximately this. religious subject concerns are familiar in examinations and your instructor could desire to be made conscious which you is unquestionably no longer writing the word in complete. it is then the instructor's place to tell the analyzing physique. it could then no longer be marked against you for utilising this format. i does not leave it to a fact, by fact it is a waste of time. Make it commonplace till now the examination. And thank you for coaching me something!

to insure that you do not take His name in vain many people only spell it completly when talking about Him or something serious of that sort.

I prefer G-d because G and D are my first and last initials, respectively. "The name's Man, G-Man."
