is using microwave is harmful? especially for children n pregnant ladies?

However specter of waves produced by electronic tube of microwave is much wider, so very short waves (similar to soft rentgen radiation) will escape. my grandmother always told me not to stand in front of the microwave while its on...it does use radiation so it makes since...some people wont even use a microwave because of the radiation...i wouldnt say dont use it, but standing in front of it directly, wouldnt do it... :)
