Unspeakable horrors?

Did anyone else read in the news that another Holocaust diary has emerged, one from a 14 year old Polish girl named Rutka Laskier? For all the inhospitable and horrible things people do to one another even today, it really bothered me to read some of the things detailed in that diary. I guess evil has been raising its ugly head for many years.

So my question is this: People of the day turned a blind eye to those Nazi butchers and allowed the horrors to continue. Have we learned our lessons, and what things can/should we do as common people to keep this type of evil from gaining a foothold again on humanity?

There was a philosopher who warned that if we did not take steps to prevent it, the Holocaust and Nazism in genral can and will happen again faster than the blink of an eye. I think with the bombing of Serbia and (albeit late) interventions in Bosnia, we have shown that it will not be tolerated in Europe anymore.

However, when you look at Rwanda in the 90's and Darfur now, it makes you think whether the world learned anything.

People turn a blind eye to things today too....

I know this because I work with charities and churches and I have seen people overlook lots of things.

Society does it all the time...most of the people who are mistreated here and abroad are the "undesirables", but people don't see that the human beings tortured and herded up were considered the same.

As for learning lessons, modern society has not learned the most basic, which is respect for ALL human beings and animals.

It would take a unanimous understanding of THAT before any meaningful discussion of this happening again could take place...

well one thing is now different than then is the fact that ppl speak up and out now . back then ppl were afraid to speak out against government . also we cannot allow the sadams of the world to take control even if it means sending young men into battle . we have to be preparred to take control over all sadist and evil doers . Just have to speak up when we see injustice . They failed to do that in Nazi Germany . I hope I helped . good luck .

What's more they just found a mass grave of Jews killed by the Nazis in the Ukraine. And yet, there are people who still deny that the Holocaust happened.

Some might say; You speak of the evil of it all, only after the facts but yet you can not see it emerging from the entity of group. Why is that?

We just have to remember that people are people, no matter their nationality, religion, or ethnic identity.

And we must ALWAYS fight any efforts by racist political parties - such as the BNP in the UK - to gain power.
