Where do the animals and plants we eat originaly come from.?

Question

For Instance are the cattle we eat derived from highland cattle and what about vegetables. I have never heard anyone talk about wild carrots and wild wheat to make flour for bread. So where do the commonly used foods come from ?

Of course some foods were bred on purpose e.g. nectarines but most foods have wild ancestors.  

Wild wheat and carrots still exist.  I'm not sure you would recognise the wild carrots - they are purple!

Sorry you are wrong. Man has over the millenium cultivated his crops( indeed ever since he changed from a hunter gatherer) , he has always strived to increase the yield from his labours on the land.
This he has done by selective breeding and seed selection.
The most recent example of this on a big scale was "THE GEEN REVOLUTION" in the 1960's when new seeds were developed promising resistance too many plant deseases. This at the time was heralded as a future for the world without hunger due to the expected increase in crop yields.
Alas as we know this was not to be, but that is a whole new subject.
