How can I set up *.gif or *.jpg Image Files as Desktop Background on Windows XP Professional 64bit?
Hi,
I have Windows XP Professional 64bit and I want to install an animated Desktop Wallpaper (gif), but this works only with Active Desktop.
To enable the A.D. on XP you need to go to
Control Panel > Display > Desktop > Costumize Desktop > Web.
But on my Version, "Web" is missing, therefore I can not start the Active Desktop.
Any Ideas?
update: I want to keep the Animation of .gif Files alive on my Desktop.

Open the file in windows picture viewer and right click on the picture.. there will be an option "Set as Wall Paper".. select it...

Nope, it has to be a .BMP or a .JPG file format. All you have to do is open the file in Windows Paint and save it either as a BMP or JPG file. Then you can use it on the desktop. I don't know about Vista, but in XP, the background desktop picture is static and does not move. I was not aware that Vista was able to have a dynamic background and use animated GIF's in the manner you have described.
