absolutely not......that is keeping you under the old testament law, instead of grace. the tithe was for the tribe of 43000 levites and the poor (they all had to share the 10%).....we do not have a levite system today....and your church will not give this directly to the poor. The only priest that got anything directly was the high priest and that was only 1/50, not 10%.....today the high priest is Jesus....Only the temple tax was for the adminstration of the temple, but modern pastors had replaced the temple tax with the tites so they can have more money. The tithe now goes to pay the pastor's salalry and administrative costs, not the poor. The disciples worked for a living, and did not expect the believers to give them 10%. Thye said anyone who deos not work will not eat. The leaders then had jobs and did not sit around all week waiting for a handout from the mostly poor believers. Your pastor only works a few hours a week, and he does nto need a full time salary. He need to get a job, and stop twisting the oldtestament to get this money which does not belong to him. When God said the tithe belonged to him, he was TALKING to the priests who kept the money for themselves. That is what is happening now in the church.

10% for tithe, but offering is much better. I know some say that all of it has to go to the congregation you belong to, but I am not so sure about that. I think it needs to go to both that and the building up of the kingdom. Supporting missionaries, feeding the poor, etc. ( no ice cream though.)

Yes we ought to tithe, and do so cheerfully. Tithe represents 10% of what God has given us to manage. And remember the Lord loves a cheerful giver.

Check out Dave Ramseys site and Crown Financial, they offer good Biblical background on tithing.

    Ten percent of our income.

    HOWEVER, PLEASE BE ADVISED:

You will have "preachers" on tv who will tell you to send this money even if you can't afford it.

Don't have the money? Hey, pledge it to God.

God does not want ten percent of something you do not have. Use common sense in all things. You need to pay for your food, your shelter, your electric, etc. - pay those bills, or else you will end up having to get help from someone else anyway.

Preachers who target the elderly who are on social security incomes ought to be ashamed of themselves. They target those individuals because they are up in age, and will sometime soon meet their God, and so want to do whats right. These fakes have those poor folks promising money they don't even have to give.

God does not expect that of you.

A love offering, if you can afford it, is up to the individual - even if you were to only give two pennies - if its more than you had the ability to give, then its counted as the biggest offering of all. Do not let those tv preachers rob you of your money, in the name of God.

A ministry that has to beg for money is not of Christ. If they were, they would trust in Christ to keep the ministry up and running.

Christ did not send out beggers, in fact, just the opposite. He said "do not take a money bag".

Quelle(n): P.S. You should tithe where you are fed the word of God.

We are to tithe...10 % and to give offerings on top of that. If we are unable to tithe with money, we should help out and give our time. Good question!

What if the church spends the money to pay for extravagance in their building and its decor? Would it not be more spiritually correct to put ones tithe towards knowing that it is actually going to help the poor? That's what I do.

according to the Word, it should be 10 percent. and it doesn't necessarily have to be monies. you can give 10 percent of clothing, food, and most importantly your time, all in the name of the Lord.

Yes, 10% off the top (before taxes) to your Church.

Guess what? if you're not saved, it won't mean a thing.
