Poker: Why is a flush named 'flush'?
You got a flush if your hand shows cards of the same suit. So far, so good. But where does the word come from? Whats its origin? Please try to name real sources, too, as Wikipedia & Co. didnt help me yet... Thanks poker freaks!
...any information about semantics, history, first appearance, derivation or whatever else is highly appreciated! :-)

I can tell you for the straight flush: It was the name of a plane (a B-29 Superfortress) participating in the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima. It was named Straight Flush, purportedly based on a gambling penchant of Eatherly, the pilot of the B-29.
All I know about the flush is: The full 52-card English deck was used, and the flush was introduced ( around 1870)
Take care
