when i paint folk art?
when i paint folk art do i paint light to dark or dark to light? can someone help please!!!
i am painting a key holder for my mum and it isnt just art but im using wood and acrylic and i bought some expensive brushes to use and they work great i only painted the under coat today in a light beige

It depends.
If you are painting in water based paints, you would go light to dark. (water colors, fabric paint etc.)
If you are using acrylic, oils or house paint, you will want to go dark to light.
It is also going to depend on your surface. Painting on paper, tissue and fabrics it is better to go light to dark. (You don't want your surface to crumple on you.) On canvas, wood, tin and other hard surfaces you will probably go dark to light.
The truth of the matter is... it depends on you. Go with the flow. Don't stress how other people are doing it... do what works best for you. Each artist has their own finger print, their own style. You have to figure out which way is going to be yours.

As all folk art is normally marked by light colour being highlights not filler colour go with dark to light. This is in the actual picture you are painting the background colour you can do without worry.
