I am 34 and cant drive?

I am 34 and never learned to drive. I have a fear of driving. I really want to learn. I live in a bigger city and it is hard to get around and I dont know many people here. I cant really afford to pay for lessons right now, but when I can I want to take them and get my license. Does anyone else have or have had this problem? How do I deal with the fear?

you have to save up for lessons that really the only way because they people are trianed, and you have never been behind the whill.

I really dont have a fear of anything not even death.

    Been there done that.

But really just do it and don't even think about what your doing.

If you think you wont do it.

If it comes to you before you have time to analyze just do it.

That what I do if I dont think I can go through with something.

And its natural to fear things even driving.

    Your not alone

I hope I was of some help.

    Talk to you later.

    And have a good day.

Here's my suggestion. If your fasting glucose is 135, then ask to just see the nutritionist and start the diabetic diet. If the 135 is after you have had the glucose drink, it is stupid. Anything under 149 is perfectly fine! I don't plan to ever get that glucose test and frankly, if I were you, I would not do the test again. I cannot understand how your doctor doesn't understand that the glucose test makes MANY women vomit? Maybe you need a less controlling physician? I have a monitor I can use and will just do the Jelly Bean test (way cheaper than the lab especially when the 'cure' is a change of diet. I already do this to monitor for increased blood sugar (my family has some problems with diabetes). Even ACOG recognizes the validity of that test. You must use Brach's Jelly Beans to get the correct grams of carbohydrate (these are the regular jelly beans, not the ones typically sold during Easter). They are eaten within 2 minutes. I've included several links to help you. Lots and lots of info on GD in the first one.

I am not driving right now. I have a license but since I live in NYC its not even necessary to drive. But it sucks when I go visit home in NJ and you have to drive everywhere because I get stuck depending on other people and of course they never come through. Plus public transportation around me is miserable. If you've made it this far with out I don't think it's worth the cost but it is worth the independence. Go to your DMV or to their website and get a driving pamphlet so you can at last be able to read about the proper driving technique until you can afford lessons

its ok everyone has some kind of fear i dont blame u for haveing a fear of driving i would be to if it was in a big city its not really safe to drive in a big city u know once u get the money for the lessons then take them then get your license and when the time comes when you need to drive you would already have a license and when u visit a small town for your family maybe you can drive then just be sure to get your license you dont have to drive right away when u do be careful thats all

Have you been in a car accident or something? That would explain the fear.

As to how to overcome it, start with something easy like driving in the parking lot. Move on to real roads on Sunday mornings when there are few cars around.

I recommend that you play some driving video games to develop the attitude of racing (or at least keeping up) with other cars. It can be scary if you drive too slowly compared to surrounding traffic, so best to develop that can do attitude from games or any other way you can.

It is a big fear when no one teach you how to drive. I know in my younger years that when you reach that age, you have to learn to drive a car. It is a skill to learn and master. My fear starts when I start driving and either I will have an accident or not. A fear of not to see all of it while driving. A fear that you drive slow. A fear that you are not catching up traffic. A fear that you are not following the flow of traffic.

To drive in 4 wheels, you need to learn how to drive in 2 wheels. (example of that, riding the bicycle)

To drive in 2 wheels, you need to learn how to drive in 4 wheels. (that's how the child learns to ride a bike with training wheels before the child realizes, he needs to remove training wheels).

I condition my mind using the shopping cart that I push in the grocery store. No one will ever know, for what I see, that is an example of a rear wheel drive. I practice turns while shopping. The shopping cart glides when you go to corners fast, scary isn't.

When I have my license, experience do count. I practice driving everyday, after work, and when I'm off. People don't always give way to you. I've been honk many times. I learn from my mistakes and keep in mind though. My driving technique is worst, because I am a new driver. My car is scratch because I don't know how to park. My wheels are scratch because I ride the wheel against the curb.

My inspiration for my driving technique is a race car driver. A race car driver will tell you, "If you want to race, go to the race track, not on the public road". The reason for saying that is your life depends on your driving technique, not your car, even with state of the art safety feature. Plus the race track has safety features for high speed driving.

It's been 10 years ago, when I first learn to drive. In fact my friends and families ask me if I want to go out (they mean vacation), which I interpret, they need someone to drive for them. I am very good in directions, and reading the map. There is an online map, a nagivation system, which people use, but still I don't rely on them. I rely only the traditional map. I rely on my driving skill which I still practice driving, because you are going to forget.

My observation with other people, if you cannot sit in the car for 10-15 minutes, you cannot do long drives. Absurd, in my opinion, that is true.

When i was 16 i had a friend who was 14 who used to drive himself (illegally) to high school.

I have also seen very very old drivers - 70-80 year olds who look like they have not got enough strenght to open the door.

I have heard that people can also drive whist sleep-walking.

If all the above can drive - You can do it,

You need a patient instructor and time.

    Good Luck!

driving schools are not that expensive.. chk ur phone book.. they might even let u use their car for a road test.. go to the dmv and get a hand book. it will tell u everything u need to know about the rules of driving ..and its usually free.
