my son is a H.S. football player and wants to increase his strenght and recently found a supplment called?

gakic. it is suppose to increase your strenght by 10.5%. Anyway before i let him use it we need to find out some information. First of all does it increase ur muscel size? because i dont want him to look like a worlds strongest man. Secondly, is it ok for a 16 almost 17 year old kid to take something this strong? ive read about it and stuff but nothing seems to say ne thing about that or if it increases mass as well as strength.

thanks alot

    Hi,

This may be a LONG answer but I feel that it is IMPORTANT! MAJOR IMPORTANT!!!

I was a semi-pro soccer goal keeper, my son was ranked nationally as a swimmer, I coached HS soccer for over 20 years and maybe know what I am talking about. I also consulted to the US National Soccer Team and have two girls playing D1 on a ride.

NONE OF MY PLAYERS EVER TOOK THEM, INCLUDING MY SON! NOR DID I.

WALK FROM THE SUPS!!!! You don't knopw what is in them and it is a CHANCE that you do NOT want to take. PERIOD!

If you remember Todd Marinovich (USC QB and DRUG PROBLEMS) well his dad had this gym and my son went ONE time; it was just TOO intense for him and we walked.

    Here are some KEY questions.

    1. I have no idea how old your son is, but have his growth plates closed?

    2. If you don't know what I am talking about get him to an ortho guy to do the test! It is non-evasive and costs maybe $200.

    3. Until the GP are CLOSED he SHOULD NOT be LIFTING to build bulk, PERIOD! HIGH REP, low WEIGHT to build the fast twitch.

My son over-lifted in HS, screwed up his shoulders and had to walk from sever rides.

    4. Now look at genetics because NO suppliment in the world is going to change that. I really do not want to be overly blunt, but if you and your husband do not have any athletic ability then your son will NOT either and supliments are NOT going to change genetics and I do NOT care HOW big he gets.

If you held him back a year so he could "mature" shame on you and you should not even consider suppliments, PERIOD.

If his GP have not CLOSED HE SHOULD BE RUNNING AND DOING LOW WEIGHT HIGH REP! Say 15 pounds with 60 reps TIMED for three sets. KIds have to have MEASURABLE improvement and TIME does the trick without screwing up their bone structure.

My son showed up for HS swimming as a freshman at 6'0", 185 and 12% body fat. He was RIPPED with NO SUPPLIMENTS!

He got in an unsupervised weight room and got into the testosterone drill with everyone pressing. He was doing incline presses of 12 reps of over 200 pounds and WON as a freshman. He won the battle but lost the war.

Just PLEASE take CHARGE because there are NO easy roads to athletic success.

It is DESIRE, TRAINING and the TOTAL SUPPORT of FAMILY NOT SUPPLIMENTS!

When I was playing I was 6'4" and 220 pounds, I was also running 6 miles twice a day. I was 45 and playing in a 35 and up league that allowed 6 players of ANY age. When I retired at 58 I droped the weight to 185 in three weeks with NO SUPPLIMENTS.

My suggestion is that you find a TRAINER that supports your son's goals and hire him/her. I used to get $50 an hour so be prepared to pay for QUALITY becaue it just is NOT going to happen with stuff put in OJ.

The chances are just TOO GREAT; Look at Sean Merriman of the Chargers and I actually BELIVE HIM.

HARD WORK, DEDICATION AND PAIN WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN IF IT IS THERE!

Sorry that this was so long but you struck a nerve and the goalkeeper mentality came to the surface.

The BEST of LUCK to you and your FAMILY, just NO SUPPLIMENTS and that includes "Red Bull"

    Jacques

no, don't bother with gakic, having sold it for a long time trust me, no good, take my advise, supplements are a slippery slope, stay away and just use protein, that is what you want him to do, up his calorie intake, and workout as often as possible,

please list the ingredients. I may be able to help if I know what I'm looking for...

Ok; I just looked it up; it's composed of glycine. Glycine is an amino acid.

It appears safe, as long as he follows the dosing & instructions on the label.
