How different is the ride of a 3/4 ton vs. a one ton truck? Can one compare a Duramax 3/4 vs. one ton?

I am specifically looking at buying a GMC or Chevrolet 3/4 or one ton truck. What differences are there between the two (the obvious load rating aside) that I should be aware of? Any experience in any brand of truck could be useful.

Generally the higher the load rating the harsher the ride, due to the stiffer springs of the higher ton truck. Also, I believe you have to get dually wheels on a GM one ton, whereas the 3/4 ton is a standard axle.
