I have been trying very hard to believe in the FSM as the true creator. I have to say, though, that I find it totally ridiculous that I have to dress like a pirate in order to talk about Him. I am also not completely convinced that the world needs more pirates.

My faith is shaking. Please help.

I have been answering questions for a while here. I see people continually railing against large water changes, claiming that they will "stress fish out", or "damage the good bacteria" - those are the two most common assertions.

What I do not understand is how someone can have the belief that CLEAN water will harm fish more than the ammonia and nitrites that are being removed.

It is true that a tank that goes without a water change for a long time (months) will experience swings in ph and GH may cause induce stress on fish, but keep ind that you are reducing much more serious poisons.

I am extremely concerned about the pervasive advice that people are passing around to people looking for serious help with their fish.

Prove me wrong (more than "I was told by X that it's bad"), and I will change my mind.
