Can you suggest some controversial topics within modern Paganism?
I'm trying to think of topics to bring up at our Pagan Moot to incite healthy debate. Any ideas?

4 AntwortenGenealogyvor 1 JahrzehntCan anyone help identify this Victorian sash?
I'm pretty sure it's Victorian, but am open to being wrong. This picture was in amongst some family photographs, no idea who she is so I've dubbed her Elouise for now.
I know our family has connections with the Ancient Order of Foresters but I've trawled their museum website and can't find anything that matches, also I can't make out any AoF symbols on the sash. Could it be suffrage? Another Society?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, book recommendations on identifying eras via clothing would also be great. Thanks!

2 AntwortenHistoryvor 1 JahrzehntThe Film Dogma: Yea or Nay?
I'm watching it at the moment (not the for the first time) and I really like it, in my opinion it's an excellent religious romp, albeit very tongue in cheek! I also believe it actually conveys a spiritual lesson
So.. have you seen? Do you like?
Yea or Nay?
9 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntIs Belly Dancing OK According to Your Religion?
I was just watching BBC News 24 and they had a short film on belly dancing and how it's dying out in Egypt due to more strict religious rules, such as it being unseemly to dance in public, especially in revealing clothing.
So, state your faith (or lack of) and your opinion of belly dancing :)
To start you off, I'm Pagan and I love belly dancing, it's a wonderful celebration of the female form in all it's wiggly glory.
Your turn!

5 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 Jahrzehnt(Family Tree) Adoption pre 1900. Where should I start?
Hi
My great grandmother was born in the late 1800s, probably 1880s and was apparently adopted, she has a birth certificate with both a mother and father listed, I don't have it on me at this exact moment hence not remembering the exact date.
If she was adopted I understand there would not be an official record of it due to the lack of legislation back then, so... could her birth certificate have been made out to her adoptive parents? Or would the birth certificate only be made out to the biological parents of the child?
Any help would be appreciated! Suggestions of who to go to for information etc.. thanks!
4 AntwortenGenealogyvor 1 JahrzehntAre former/ex battery hens suitable for beginners?
I'm looking to get my first chickens, only a couple, would it be okay to start with ex-bats or should I go with something else?
I'm aware that battery hens can have problems, having been confined so that they can't act as hens ought, and am worried I might not have appropriate knowledge to help them.
While I'm asking questions I was also wondering what size pop-hole a Rhode Island Red would need, as I understand they are the most common battery breed.

3 AntwortenHobbies & Craftsvor 1 JahrzehntCan I have the advice of a Vet or person with similar experience?
Slightly odd question here, I'm working on a short story and I'd like to know a bit about worms in animals, I worm my cats and dogs but that's as far as my experience goes!
Basically I want to know if
a: the parasites cats/dogs get are treated by the same medication
b: other animals, specifically cows can get the same/similar parasites and if so are they treated with the same medication as the cats/dogs
Or are all blood borne parasites different, requiring different meds?
Thanking you in advance
2 AntwortenZoologyvor 1 JahrzehntHelp with Wiccan Mythology anybody?
I'm writing a piece on Mabon and I'm trying to get my head around the various myths/stories of the God at this time of year.
At Lammas he sacrifices his strength for the harvest and at Samhain he is Lord of the Underworld.. so is he just hanging around at Mabon? Caught between the two worlds? I'm I right in thinking he's the Sage now?
Any helpful thoughts or opinions are welcome :)

3 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntPanting Queen, just stress?
We have just fostered a queen with her five kittens, she's a little on the skinny side but otherwise healthy and her kittens are bright eyed and bushy tailed, they're two weeks old by the way and happily suckling. The mother is eating well, really well! She just scoffed down two packets of cat food. She does keep panting though. Quick, short pants. She has had a bit of a trying day so I'm putting it down to stress, she does seem to be settling down a bit now... she's not panting... in fact she's dreaming! (I'm watching her as I type)
So basically I just need reassurance that she's just a little stressed and I don't need to worry!

11 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntHow to tell the difference between beech and hornbeam wood?
I have a mystery tree in my garden, it looks like a beech but it never has beech nuts, it also looks like a hornbeam, I'm basing these deductions on a tree book I've got but my Aunt is convinced it's a beech. The only other thing I can say about it is the wood its self is pale, almost white with a very fine grain.
