  • Ferret with a biting problem?

I recently acquired a six month old ferret from Petco. He's a Marshall ferret. Regardless, I have a biting problem. I let him out to run around and get all get his energy out for several hours each day. But everyone in the house has to be on guard because he chases people and attacks their feet and hands. I scruff him and give him a stern NO! every time he bites me, then love him and praise him and try to play with him, as to give positive reinforcement as well. Unfortunately, as soon as I set him down once I scruffed him, he goes back for my feet and bites harder. He's drawn blood on my younger sister because he bit her when she was walking past. I think he has a dominant personality, and I won't get rid of him, as once I bring in an animal under my care, I care for them for life, but it's frustrating that he seems not to back down. I haven't tried time-outs yet, but I don't rally have a way to do that at the moment. I have been trying to break him of this habit for about three weeks now, and his biting has only gotten worse. If anyone has any idea what to do, I would greatly appreciate it, as I'm at a loss.

  • Serious logic question? Pleez help!?

i already posted this question, but i need an answer. here's my story:

I am showing a steer. My friend's sheep is due three months after my steer 'goes'. I am going to buy her lamb. She bought the sheep when it was pregnant. My other friend, who has the male who got her pregnant, wants the first girl to pay *stud fees*. I had told her it was the only way she could could make money off of it, since there really was no prior agreement, and even then, she really can't do anything.

But now she went and *researched* stud fees for a ram, and she wants to charge $75 for the baby, when we are all just kids, the sheep all live together, they are shown in the fair, some of the babies would then be crosses, each baby is only being sold for $125, and all the other girls don't want the babies that much or pay the stud fees. We are all great friends, and she wants to charge $50 for the cross bredds which won't even go for $125, since they'll be crosses. Is this too much money? I think a reasonable stud fee, if any, is between $20 and $35.

Another problem shows up when the girl with ram, who is not fixed, will try to breed with the babies. I am worried he will breed them when they are too young, and I really won't want my sheep pregnant with her father's babies, especially all the time. I would want her pregnant maybe twice. These are show sheep and sometimes you can't show a fixed sheep. I don't think the girl with the ram would take too kindly to having her ram locked up, fixed, or separated from all of the females. Also, since all of the sheep have to be de-horned, could we have more than one male? But she wanted the ram, and rams do not have the babies. I wish we just didn't have rams, so our ewes could be left in peace.

It's harder to train a sheep, (especially for the obstacle course things when she's pregnant). So I'm probably just going to get her fixed.

  • Charolais help!!? Getting un~scared of him?

I have a Charolais steer named Omar.

He is the sweetest thing, he comes up and licks me, and he loves to be scratched. :)

My FFA leader can walk him and mess with him, plus I can walk him with her there.

Any advice on what to do to to make me less scared of him?

He's about 700 lbs right now, and he is 11 months old.

I wont walk into his pen, but i'm fine if he's tied and i'll go up and pet him,

really, its just that hes so BIG!

how do i get over it?

  • Serious rat problem????????????????/?

This morning i woke up to find a rat squeaking pretty loudly. it couldn't have been Rosie, Shelby doesn't ever bite or anything like that. Rosie is almost 13 months old, and Shelby is 6 months old. When i first got Shelby, Rosie took a good chunk out of her ear, but they've been inseperable ever since, sleeping together, playing togeher, just altogether enjoying themselves. Rosie is like twice the size of Shelby, and has bitten me once, but she lioved in a petstore until she was 7 months old, so i can see where she's coming from. Rosie lets me hold her and stuff, but freaks out and starts to squeak when io pick her up. so shelby is a lot nicer since i got her as a baby.

Rosie made a small fleshy wound on shelby, its not really bleeding, and shelby is bouncing off the walls as always, so what should i do about it?

are there any houshold items that are safe for rats that i should use, or let it heal on its own?

  • When should I get her a new cagemate, and should I even get her one?

My rat died. My other rat is still alive. She doesn't seem to be phased by the death,(that much). If there is any changes in behavior I'll take her to vet. She's about 8 months old.

  • Will my rat get bumblefoot?

I have two rats, and they are both climbers. One of them goes on top of the cage whenever she can. She'll stay up there for 5, 10, maybe even 15 minutes at a time if I let her. She also has a little trouble climbing down, but she can manage, besides that she just walks around and sniffs up there. The top of the cage is wire, and I attempted to put some cardboard from a box up there, but she just chewed and ignored it. Just today, I had to rescue her from three of the four times she got up there. HELP!
