I am not techno minded, I'm just a grandma putting the family pictures onto film. I am using Adobe Premier CS5 and up to now I have had no problems. I put a wallpaper/background, which gets rid of the black surround, then I add an appropriate soundtrack.

and also use video transitions. When I went to do my current film - suddenly on of the pictures was duplicated 8 times and 8 pictures disappeared. I checked the pictures in the file and they were ok. I started again having deleted the picture that had been duplicated and the same thing happened although the picture had been deleted. I then used another picture folder and the same thing happened with one of the pictures from the folder,

I was just reading about copyright when I came across this -

''It should be noted that photographs, portraits and engravings which were commissioned and paid for prior to the 1988 Act coming into force have different rules governing the first ownership of copyright. In general, the copyright owners of such works is the person who commissioned and paid for them''

Does this mean that family pictures etc taken by the local photographer before 1988 is not subject to copyright and he (the photographer) cannot stop you showing these pictures .

When I was doing my degree in Archaeology I had to do a presentation on the different sections of a local castle, I did this by videoing the castle, That was about 12 years ago, 2 years ago a friend transferred the short film from video to dvd. I only looked at it for the first time last night as I want to put it onto my historical Youtube sight, I was a little dissappointed as it looked like one of those old videos that you hired out, There are black spikes along the edges of the film. I have got a lot of pictures belonging to my dad that he took when he was out in Egypt. about 1945/46. I want to put them into a film using Adobe Premier Pro with a background of appropriate music for the time - perhaps Glenn Miller. the copyright of photographs, it's quite a minefield. I am from a small village and being small all of the photographs regarding the village and it's inhabitants fell to two people. One took photographs at the early 1900s the other from 1950s.Every historical moment, every sporting event, schools, weddings everything fell to these two. A group of us in the village Most of us are OAPs started to swap pictures on FB. People who had emigrated saw our site and joined in. (All these had been in school with us)

I thought it would be nice to make a video of all these pictures and put it up on Facebook, It hadn't been on Facebook 24 hours when I received notice that I was possibly in breach of copyright. and we all know how FB got involved. All the photographs were obviously inherited by the family who are now making DVDs and producing books. We do not want to make any money, it is only showing photos to each other as we would in each other's living room. Has the copyright on these pictures ended or does it carry on through the family.

I recently had to have my pc completely overhauled due to it being compromised during a scam. I am convinced that before the 'overhaul' I had a spell checker that checked my e-mails etc. (Not the one in Y Answers,- that still works)
