Politicsvor 3 MonatenDo you agree with Sen. Ben Sasse about the Executive Order signed 8/8/2020?
He said " President Trump does not have the power to unilaterally rewrite the payroll tax law. Under the Constitution, that power belongs to the American people acting through their members of Congress."
3 AntwortenPoliticsvor 8 MonatenDo you find this amusing?
One story from two different news sources:
CNN homepage (CNN.COM) headline:
US jobs recovery takes a massive hit and is still down nearly 13 million jobs
links to
https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/07/economy/july-2020-j...
Fox News homepage (FOXNEWS.COM) headline:
Unemployment rate falls to 10.2% in July as US adds 1.8M jobs
links to

Neither story is "fake news" or deceptive.
I think it is amusing. If you reaction is to get angry at one of the sources I recommend you lighten up. You will live longer.

Politicsvor 1 JahrHow do you feel about the editorial in Christianity Today calling for President Trump to be removed from office?
Some excerpts:
" the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral."
...
"He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused."

5 AntwortenPoliticsvor 1 JahrWill you help me compile a list of candidates, by party, nominated after being convicted or while indicted?
As a liberal, it seems to me that I have, over the years, read about a surprising number of Republican candidates running for office after either having been convicted of breaking the law or while they are under indictment.
Most recently I read that Rep. Duncan Hunter ran for office while under indictment.
https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-12-0...
Of course the most famous example is President Trump who was elected after having been found guilty in Court of violating the Clayton Act.

I recognize that as a liberal I may be biased so I am looking for a list of candidates who have run for office while under indictment or after having been convicted.
I welcome examples from both liberals and conservatives of candidates from any party. A link to a source would be appreciated.

3 AntwortenPoliticsvor 2 JahrenDo you believe President Trump was telling the truth when he said the following?
“With what happened early today, that horrible, horrible attack in Pittsburgh, I was saying maybe I should cancel both this and that. And then I said to myself, I remembered Dick [Grasso], a friend of mine, great guy, he headed up the New York Stock Exchange on September 11th, and the New York Stock Exchange was open the following day. He said — and what they had to do to open it you wouldn’t believe, we won’t even talk to you about it. But he got that exchange open. We can’t make these sick, demented, evil people important.”

6 AntwortenPoliticsvor 2 JahrenDo you believe Republican presidents are better at lowering unemployment than Democratic presidents? If so, why?
I checked the unemployment rate for every post World War II president in the months they took office and left office. With the exception of Ronald Reagan, the rate was higher in the month a Republican president left office than in the month he took office. During the same time period, no Democratic president had a higher rate in the month he left office than in the month he took office.

5 AntwortenPoliticsvor 4 JahrenDid you agree with candidate Trump's attacks on President Obama's handling of the economy in 2016?
If so, why?
The incomes of middle-class Americans rose last year to the highest level ever recorded by the Census Bureau, as poverty declined and the scars of the past decade’s Great Recession seemed to finally fade.
Median household income rose to $59,039 in 2016, a 3.2 percent increase from the previous year and the second consecutive year of healthy gains, the Census Bureau reported Tuesday. The nation’s poverty rate fell to 12.7 percent, returning nearly to what it was in 2007 before a financial crisis and deep recession walloped workers in ways that were still felt years later.
The new data, along with another census report showing the rate of Americans lacking health insurance to be at its lowest ever last year, suggest that Americans were actually in a position of increasing financial strength as President Trump, who tapped into anger about the economy, took office this year.
