i cant tell because scrolling thru the levels is a loop and the meaning could go either way?

I have a dell Latitude D610 laptop. I think the sound card is Sigma Tel: C-major Audio. So I reformatted the computer(Windows XP) and I don't have the cd for the driver or anything. When i try to download a driver for it around the internet, it'll say Device Object not present. I can't find the sound card on Detect Hardware either. Am I doing something wrong?
