  • Do you agree with this?

In a hilarious scene from the 1975 film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” King Arthur and his squire Patsy encounter a figure in black armor as they are traveling through a forest in search of knights for his Round Table. Instead of joining them, the Black Knight attempts to block the king from crossing his bridge — which is barely more than a plank of wood — and declares: “You shall die.”

Amid the ensuing swordfight, the inept knight loses his limbs, one by one, until he is left with only a torso and a head. “'Tis but a scratch,” he insists. “I’ve had worse.” As Arthur and Patsy go on their way, the knight shouts after them: “Running away, eh? You yellow bastards! Come back here and take what’s coming to ya! I’ll bite your legs off!

  • Did Boris get bent over?

Raw sausages and other minced meats can no longer be exported to the EU from 1 January, according to new rules.

The guidance is part of the post-Brexit trade deal agreed between the UK and the EU last week.

Meat industry bodies attended a conference call with ministers on Tuesday to seek clarification about the issue.

The British Meat Processors Association said it was one of several issues causing concern.

New EU rules on exports dictate that from 1 January, the following animal products cannot be exported into the EU:

    Chilled minced red meat

Chilled meat preparations (for example, raw sausages)

    Minced meat (poultry)

Poultry and ratite or game bird mechanically-separated meat

Raw milk from cows infected with Bovine Tuberculosis (TB)

  • What does trumps cdc say about masks?

Americans are increasingly adopting the use of cloth face masks to slow the spread of COVID-19, and the latest science may convince even more to do so.

In an editorial published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), CDC reviewed the latest science and affirms that cloth face coverings are a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19 that could reduce the spread of the disease, particularly when used universally within communities. There is increasing evidence that cloth face coverings help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.

“We are not defenseless against COVID-19,” said CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield. “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities

  • Do lockdowns work?

    Findings

During the study period, mobility restriction was inversely related to the daily number of newly diagnosed SARS-CoV-2 positive cases only after the second, more effective lockdown, with a peak in the curve of diagnosed cases of infection occurring 14 to 18 days from lockdown in the three regions and 9 to 25 days in the included provinces. An effective reduction in transmission must have occurred nearly immediately after the tighter lockdown, given the lag time of around 10 days from asymptomatic infection to diagnosis. The period from lockdown to peak was shorter in the areas with the highest prevalence of the infection. This effect was seen within slightly more than one week in the most severely affected areas.

    Interpretation

It appears that the less rigid lockdown led to an insufficient decrease in mobility to reverse an outbreak such as COVID-19. With a tighter lockdown, mobility decreased enough to bring down transmission promptly below the level needed to sustain the epidemic.
