1 AntwortBMWvor 6 JahrenCombination Problem,Flags?
A three flag signal is formed by placing three flags top, middle and bottom from a selection of 16 flags.
2 yellow
3 red
5 blue
6 green
Probability required ,blue flag appears above a yellow flag.
also
How many 4 flag signals can be formed from the same set?
Thank you.
1 AntwortMathematicsvor 8 JahrenPoisson Process Question?
If the goal arrival intensities of the two teams are 1.5 and 1.25 ,for a unit time interval, what would the approximate probability be for a 1-1 draw? No extra time to be considered.
Thank you.
So for the match the intensities are 1.5 and 1.25,no adjustment neccessary.
1 AntwortMathematicsvor 9 JahrenProbability Question For Verification?
A point P(x,y) is chosen at random in a unit disc.
Centred at (0,0)
The probability required is that the point chosen is such that both ¦ x -y¦ < 1 and ¦x+y¦ <1 .
(The lines are meant to be for absolute values.)
Is the answer 2/pi or 1-2/pi?
Thank you.

1 AntwortBooks & Authorsvor 9 JahrenProbability Question ,Expectation?
Fifteen tourists are stranded in a city with four hotels, all of which are located near each other in the city centre.
Each hotel has enough rooms for all of the tourists.
Each tourist chooses a hotel randomly and independently of the others.
What is the expected value for X if X is a random variable denoting the number of hotels not chosen by any of the tourists?
....................................................................................................................................
The author gives a hint as follows,
"Define the random variable Xi as equal to 1 if the ith hotel is empty and 0 otherwise."
But should it not be define Xi as 1 if there are i hotels empty and 0 otherwise?
There is precious little difference between the two answers but what do you say is the correct way?
Thank you.

Can you show me how to approach this problem, please?
A street light is at the top of a 15ft pole.
A man 6ft tall is walking away from the pole at a speed of 5 ft/sec along a straight path.
How fast is the tip of his shadow moving when he is 40 feet from the pole?
Also,How fast is his shadow lengthening at that point?
Many thanks.
1 AntwortMathematicsvor 9 JahrenAnother statistics question.?
A binomial random variable has a mean of 6 and a standard deviation of 1.5.
What percentage of the area under the probability histogram is to the left of 5;to the right of 7?
.................................................................................
The author says that X less than 5 in a binomial approximates to a normal Y less than or equal to 5.5.
Further he says that X greater than 7 in the binomial is roughly Y greater than or equal to 6.5 normal.
Please tell me he is wrong.
Thank you.
3 AntwortenMathematicsvor 9 JahrenSimple Statistics Question.?
The question in the book goes as follows,
Miniature poodles are thought to have a mean height of 12 inches and a standard deviation of 1.8 inches.
If height is measured to the nearest inch, find the percentage of poodles having a height exceeding 14 inches.
..........................................
I thought that we would take an approximation based on the basis that heights are greater than 14.5.
The book says "to find the percentage of poodles such that height ,X,is greater than 14 inches,we need to find the percentage of poodles whose height is greater than 13.5 inches."
My question is ,why 13.5?I would have thought that we are then including the dogs whose height is 14 inches.
Thank you.

or
420 -1/2-396.9

1 AntwortMathematicsvor 9 JahrenSimple probability/statistics question.?
What would you take for the Z value in this question?
In a random sample of 10,000 claims filed against an automobile insurance company,75% exceeded $300.
What is the probability that of the next 400 claims filed more than 72% will be above $300?
The book says Pr[Z> 287.5-300/8.66]
should it not be [288-300]/8.66 ?

1 AntwortVideo & Online Gamesvor 9 JahrenProbability,Multinomial or Binomial?
What do you think of this?
................................................
If a bag contains 3 white,2 black and 4 red balls and 4 balls are drawn at random with replacement, calculate the probability that the sample contains just one white ball.
The answer given is 32/81 and the PHD that did it used a binomial,
4(1/3)(2/3)^3
I used the multinomial and can only get 832/2187,can you tell me where I am going wrong ,please?
Thanks.
