I have a block.Looking in its free body diagram, it is shown with T(tension) pulling up and a 240N weight pulling down and it is said to be moving upwards.Now,the thing i dont understand is when applying the F=ma, my a(acceleration) value is substituted in to be negative a(-a) or positive a(+a)?And also,conversely,is it positive or negative if the block was to move down?
