  • Does Hypnotherapy work for depression and low self-esteem?

It was suggested by my mum that as Cognitive Behavioural Therepy had limited effect on me (got me off prozac after 10 years but still have horrendous depressive episodes) and I know what the cause of it all is (stuff from when I was a kid) maybe I should see a hypnotherapist to try and see if they can do something to "block" the negative stuff. Oh and PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO TRY RELIGION!! I've tried most of them and never found one I could actually believe in. I respect your views that you believe there is a God, etc. etc. so please respect the fact that I don't believe in such things.

  • Kneasles (adult joke)?

A newly wed couple get to their bridal suite on the wedding night. The bride undresses and slips into bed. The groom takes a bit longer getting undressed. As he takes off his shoes and socks the bride says "what's wrong with your toes?"

"I had tolio when I was a kid" says the groom

"Tolio? Don't you mean Polio?" asks the bride

"No - Tolio. That's what it does to your toes"

He takes off his trousers. "What's wrong with your knees??" exclaims the bride.

"I had kneasles when I was a kid"

"Kneasles? You mean Measles don't you?"

"No" said the groom. "I mean Kneasles - that's what it does to your knees"

He's finally almost undressed and whips off his underpants. The bride starts laughing "Ha, ha!! Don't tell me - you had small cox!!!"

  • Severe Headache for 3 days - possible causes?

I've had a severe headache for 3 days now. Over the counter medication does not help - not even migraine tablets. I have seen the out of hours GP today who gave me Codeine and diclofenac which took most (but not all) the pain away but left me feeling really drugged and dozy. I won't be able to work like that, especially as I have to fly to Southampton (from Yorkshire) on Monday for 2 days. I'm drinking at least 2-3 litres of water or water based drinks (i.e. sugar free diluted cordials, etc), plus my usual tea (about 4-6 large mugs a day). I exercise, I've been going out to the park with my son to get some fresh air, etc. but it won't shift. I know it's not a migraine as I have those occassionally and this is different - across the top of my head rather than over my eyes where I would normally get migraine pain, although I am sensitive to light. Any suggestions as to what this could be or what else I could do to ease the pain without being drugged up?

  • How long does it take to get used to a partial denture?

My 8 year old son suffered with rare tumours when he was a baby which were attached to his jaw. One of the tumours was high and when it was removed it took with it 3 adult teeth (these are just under the eye when you are a baby, growing and dropping down as you grow). He has finally been given a partial denture to fill the gap (it is in the front) until he gets old enough to have permanent false teeth implanted. He is finding it difficult to eat and drink, not because it hurts as the teeth are a very good fit, but because he cannot feel himself chewing, etc. Does anyone know how long it takes to get used to this and be able to eat normally again? It would be good if I could give him a rough idea of when they will start to feel like "his" teeth!

  • Is it better for a child to have a dead-beat dad or none at all?

I've got an 8 year old son who hasn't seen his dad since he was 16 months old. He dad was a complete waste of space and we had actually split up before I found out I was pregnant (before people flame me about using protection, I'd been told medically that I was unable to have children and so after a few months together we stopped using condoms). We did get back together briefly but I threw him out for the last time when he stole all the money from our son's money box when he was 12 weeks old. The father had access for the next year but I stopped him having unsupervised visits when my son was constantly coming back hungry, thirsty with a dirty nappy and - worst of all - stinking of cigarette smoke. The last thing is even more appalling when you understand my son had 3 tumours in his mouth before he was 1 year old. His father never turned up for the supervised visits so I told him if he could turn up as arranged to stay away.
