  • A good book for an airplane?

In October, I'm going to DISNEY WORLD! Being from California, this is about a 5-hour flight, plus the 2 hours you have to wait in the airport and then I gotta do it all again on the return flight. I'm an avid reader and am searching for a book to read during this time, long enough that I won't finish it 2 hours in, but not too long. I'm into the clichéd, but addictive, young adult books. My favorite series of all time is Vampire Academy. Second favorite is The Curse Workers. Third is The Hunger Games. Also, being a guy, I'm always looking for a male narrator (i.e. The Curse Workers), but I DESPISED Beautiful Creatures. So, that's a little bit about my tastes, any suggestions?

  • How to kill this character?

I asked this before, but didn't really care for the answers. My question is: how do I kill this character? My story is about a college freshman guy who has the power to inhabit people's bodies to live out their deaths. He doesn't know why or how he got the power, that it just started one day (don't worry, I explain it later on). Anyway, the first chapter of the novel is him seeing someone die. It's an unimportant character, just sort of an intro to the ins and outs of the power (he already knows these things). So how to kill this person? No car accident, please. I was thinking something to do with a forest, because it takes place in a foresty part of Alabama, but can't figure it out (like a tragic fall just seems lame). Please help!!

  • Manuscript Formatting Question?

I'm an aspiring author, I've written a couple novels that I've decided are no good. But this newest one is good and I want to be published. I recently discovered the rules to formatting a manuscript, but I have a question about it. In it, the main guy slips into the minds of others and I want the "other" thoughts to be in a different font (think of Stephenie Meyer's The Host to understand what I mean). My question is: how do you signify a different font in a manuscript? Actually use a different font, bold it, what? Thanks!

  • How should I kill this character?

Ok, here's my idea. The main guy has this power that he doesn't know how he got (I explain it later) where he inhabits the bodies of the soon-to-die and is able to see/live out their death. So my question is: how should I kill the first person that he sees die. It happens in the very first chapter, a kick-start to the novel. The character isn't important, just a random face, but the event is important because it's the first time that that guys has a "death vision" in public. I was originally gonna do a car crash but that's generic & a little awkward to write. I don't want any sort of murder because that comes later. Also, drowning is out because the MC is at the lake with his buds when it happens so that would be too convenient. Thanks for your help!

  • Question about Novel I'm writing featuring Hellhounds/Demons?

I have asked a similar question before but couldn't really find an answer that I liked. Please help me!

My main character is a hellhound. His job is to retrieve the souls of those who have made deals with demons. The way he became a hellhound is by selling his own soul in a deal years ago. He regrets his decision. Now, a demon is offering him a way out of his deal, but first he must do something for the demon.

My question is what do demons want? It has to be an object of some kind to that the hellhound must go find & retrieve. The only things that come to mind are 1) the key to Hell or 2) an elixir that allows the demon to walk on earth (they can't physically cross over to our plane). But I don't like either of these.

    Please help!! :)

  • Fictional Ways to End the World?

So I'm thinking up a book about this futuristic society where only 13 cities (well 12 & a man made island) are still standing (because they're protected by the Domes). Everything else is dead. It's about this guy who lives outside the Domes with a group of scavengers but is found & brought back to his old home. My question is how should I "end the world"? I was thinking some sort of disease sweeps across the earth because mother nature is fighting back for how we're treating her, but that sounds supernaturally & I don't want that. How should I do this?

  • A Couple Question About a Novel I'm Writing...?

    Question 1: Names

    • Character A: 17yo girl. Dark brown hair, gray eyes, pale skin. Has a scar across her left cheek bone. Suicidal, but not really. I want her name to sound pure but have a darker meaning.

    • Character B: 17yo boy. Blonde hair, green eyes with brown flecks, darkly tanned skin (from working in the sun). This guy's a cowboy-type (ex: likes plaid shirts, ripped jeans & work boots).

    • Character C: Black hair, blue eyes, white skin. He is mysterious and quiets the noise within Character A.

I like older/"weird" names (meaning no Jacob, Joshua or Jessica).

    Question 2: How to die?

Character A has a near-death experience, which gives her the scar on her cheek. How should I do it? The only way I can think of is a car accident, but that is so cliché.

Question 3: How to Keep a Reaper Away?

After Character A's NDE, she is depressed & suicidal (effects of the reaper that's on her trail, hoping to collect her soul). Later, she even has "visions" of the dead (also manufactured by the reaper). So the question here is how should I make her get away from the reaper in the first place. I'm thinking of making her best friend her guardian angel that saved her life, but I'm not so sure.

    HELP!!!

All answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

  • Question about Novel: How to Escape a Reader?

Im writing a novel about a girl that "dies" but only for a couple seconds until she's revived. Because of her brush with death, she goes through a deep depression and, later, has "visions" of the dead. These things are caused by a reaper who is trying to take her where she belongs: the land of the dead. The day she" died," something happened that made the reaper unable to collect her. I'm thinking her mother does something to protect her, but what? What would make the reaper unable to collect her so that she is able to come back to life. Also, how should she "die?" I don't want a car crash, too generic... Help!!!

  • Hellhound novel question?

I asked something pertaining to this same novel before, but this is a little different. I'm in the beginning stages of writing a novel about a hellhound (a demonic version of a werewolf, I suppose). In it, hellhounds are like hellish bounty hunters, taking souls of people who made deals with demons to hell. The main plot is that the main hellhound (from the Cerberus line, the best of their kind) is forced into a deal himself by a demon (not his master) in which he must finds something or he dies. What should the something be? At first I was thinking things like the soul of an angel, the soul of a pure being, the soul of another hellhound, but I don't know. What would a demon want that he would send a hellhound to find? Help me please!

  • Help with my villain?

I've been brainstorming this new idea for a novel about a hellhound. My hellhounds are like werewolves, I suppose, in the way that they can choose between a human or dog-like form. They are like the ones on the show Supernatural, like mythical bounty hunters that chase down people who have made deals with demons.

The only problem is, I'm not sure what my bad guy should be. I was thinking an angel, but that seems a little too easy. I want something else. My main plot is that something happens to this hellhound that changes his outlook on life. I was thinking somehow an angel steals his power, making him completely human, but I'm really not too sure yet.

Please help! Any and all ideas will be considered. Thank you so much in advance.

  • Question about supernatural novel...?

I wanted to write a supernatural book and for the love interest to be an angel, however after a bit of research, I realized that that is so overdone. Now, I still want to write this supernatural novel, but I don't know what type of "creature" to write about. Any ideas? I don't want vampires, werwolves or angels, definitely something along the lines of humanoids (all three of those appear human, at least sometimes).

  • What should I call my reapers?

I finally was able to narrow down my ideas for the novel I want to write, but I still reaper couple questions: what do I call my reapers? I don't mean reaper like they kill people. They simply collect the soul after the person has died to deliver them to the other side, a psycopomp if you will. I like in Hold Me Closer, Necromancer that they are called Harbingers, just as an example.

Second question: what should I call the "other side"? For instance, in the Immortals series by Alyson Noël, there are Summerland and Shadowland. In Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series, there are the Otherworld and the Underworld. I need a name for heaven, hell, and purgatory. I was thinking maybe Paradise, Pandemonium, and Perdition, but I'm not sold on those yet.

Any and all ideas will be considered! Thank you, in advance, for your help!!! :)

  • What supernatural beings have to deal with death?

I have another idea blooming that I will be working on next. It's about a girl that can see the dead. She cuts herself because that's the only way to stop the noise. But then she meets a boy. He's dark and alluring and somehow stops the sound of the dead. He's something supernatural, but what? What would do what I just described?

  • How to give characters immortality?

I asked this before but got no good answers. Here I go again: how do I make my characters immortal? I know I want them to get immortality through the tree of life, but I don't know how. I don't want them to just drink an elixir and get immortality (ie Alyson noël's Evermore and Hilary Duff's Elixir). Ideas??

  • What supernatural creature can I use?

So the main character I have is sort of a mixture of mythology plus my own creation. He's a shadowwalker & helps cross the dead over to the other side. Then I have these soulless creatures called wraiths that eat the souls of the dead if they don't cross over soon enough. I need one more creature. I was thinking reapers, because they need to be able to kill humans in order to feed the wraiths, but I don't know. Any ideas? Help! Thank you!! :)

  • What types of creatures go with angels?

Ok so I have this idea for a new novel that follows the life of a fallen angel. It wasn't his decision, he was forced from heaven. I was just wondering what other things go with angels? Obviously demons. What else? (no vampires or werewolves!) :) thanks

  • Which sounds better for book titles?

I've finally figured out what I want my title for my newest book to kind of be & was wondering which sounds better. Or the series name:

    1) Infinity Ink

    2) Immortal Ink

And for the title of the first book in the series does Soul Marked sound cheesy? If so I was thinking Branded. Ideas?

  • Couple of questions for a book I'm writing.?

    1) What's an unusual sport for high school? My characters go to a private school in Beverly Hills & I want something different, that not every school would have. (No football, soccer, baseball, water polo, etc.)

    2) What should I name said private school? I'd like it to have the word Academy in it, but I'm not sure about the rest.

    3) Where should the bad guy take the girl? He kidnaps her because she has a key to unlock what he needs, though she doesn't know that yet. I want it to be a state (or maybe country) other than California and not New Orleans or Greece, because I already used those as vacation spots for them.

    Thank you in advance!!
