  • Counting up numbers in a list?

I've got a list of about 1,000 numbers. How do I count up the total number of occurrences of each number? x number of 1's; y number of 2's; etc.

I figure there's probably a function in Excel, but I'm a complete neophyte when it comes to Excel.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Price difference on Chevy Silverado and Colorado 4x4?

Does anyone have any idea why adding the 4 wheel drive option on a Colorado (the smaller truck) costs MORE than adding 4 wheel on the Full size Silverado?

It costs an additional $7k on the Colorado and only about $4k for Silverado.

Is there a particular reason that anyone is aware of?

  • Is disbelief in what you've been told by someone the same as calling that person a liar?

Help me out here Yahoo, I think it is, but I'm hoping there's some angle that I just can't see because I'm so pissed right now.

    Here's the story:

Myself and my direct boss, the IT manager, installed a temperature sensor in an office area at work. The three people who work in that particular area thought it was a microphone. Now it totally does look like a small mike. I get that. But I told them face to face exactly what it was to clarify things. My boss told them exactly what it was. It's a networked temperature sensor that allows us to monitor the environmental conditions in a building that we all know has heating and cooling issues. There are two other such sensors on the two other floors for the exact same purpose.

Their response when talking to the Big Boss about the matter was 'we don't believe that. we want it removed.'

Is there ANY WAY to interpret their response other than 'mcq316 and his boss are lying to us.'? Because I am so deeply insulted and offended right now and I'm too close to the matter to see it any other way.

  • Looking for office desks that can be 'closed' and locked?

Quick background info: We are going to be doing some MAJOR renovation, expansion, and remodeling at work. What this means for the employees is that most of our desks are going to have to be moved for the next several months. Some are likely to be moved into public areas. It's a library, so people wandering and browsing is common. Obviously then, we need to secure the materials on and in the desks.

What I'm looking for is a commercial size regular office desk that has a cover and can be locked when not in use. The roll top desks that I've found are small writing desks, more like you would find in someone's home, not big enough to work from.

Of course, there are desks with drawers and cabinets that lock individually. But I'm looking for something that has a cover for the desktop itself as well.

Has anyone ever come across something like this? The Google hasn't been much help in finding anything, but then I may simply not be searching the right terms.

Preferably NOT something custom made (ie. crazy expensive).

Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Upholstered chair construction?

I'm building myself a nice sittin' chair and I have a question about the springs. The design I have calls for zig zag springs. (also called sinuous springs, I think). However it doesn't specify the length of the springs. How does one measure this length? They are attached to the front and back rails, but at what point do I measure from? From the center of each rail? From the inside edge of each?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Only one pupil is dilated. Should I worry?

I'm not one to worry about most health issues, but I know this can be a huge warning sign.

So one eye is a little bloodshot which I'm 99% sure is allergy related. That started last night. I put in a couple allergy relief drops then, a couple more this morning. Nothing out of the ordinary. Then I put a couple in tonite, about 5, and around 630 I noticed that my pupil was dilated. I only put drops in the one eye and things have returned to normal now about 5 hours later. Never had any pain or numbness or any other symptoms. If I hadn't looked in the mirror, I wouldn't have known anything was out of the ordinary. I've used these drops before without incident but the web tells me that enlarged pupils can be a sideeffect. What do y'all think?

  • Looking for a unique sentence?

This might be tough to explain but I'm looking for a few sentences that can be read in multiple ways. Sentences that can be read starting from different words in the same sentence.

If we have the sentence 'the red car is there' it could also be read 'car is there the red' or 'is there the red car'

Obviously that doesn't work, but that's the idea i'm going for. The words stay in the same order but you can start from different spots and still get a grammatically correct sentence.

Is there a term for that, anyone know where i mint find some examples?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Walmart locking people in? Legal?

In the event of a tornado warning (like we just had about an hour ago), my local walmart will not let people leave the store. Is this 1) legal? and 2) is it even thier responsibility to do this?

I don't know if they'll let you go if you start really raising hell over it. I'm just curious as to whether they can actually detain you and what the legal reason behind it would be.

  • Better pitcher to trade for?

Dallas Braden, Nate Robertson, Randy Wolf.

We use a funky formula to figure pitchers' points. ERA is HUGE, innings pitched factors in (more is better), wins = +points, losses = -points.

So which of those three would be better to get?

  • Canned pastry/pie filling?

It says 'refrigerate after opening'. Does it really need to be? I'm looking to fill some cupcakes and fridge space is tight. Can they sit out overnight after filling? I don't see anything that might spoil in the ingredients. Anyone know?

  • A political alignment question?

So I was taking one of those kinda dumb 'what political party are you' quizzes that populate the interwebs and most of the questions where pretty easy to answer. Not in a right/wrong way, but in the sense that I know where I stand on most issues so I could agree or disagree with the premise rather quickly. But I came across one that's got me thinking, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it:

If a company invents a pill that cures all cancer, they should be allowed to charge whatever they want for it. --> Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree

That's quite the conundrum. What does the Yahoo community think?

  • The Cheifs added Romeo Crennel?

Along with Charlie Weis as the D and O coordinators and Scott Pioli in the front office. This is the setup that the Pats had when they won thier 3 rings. IF, and I realize this is a big 'if', but if those three can build a championship team in the next year or two, would that taint Belichek's legacy as a great coach? I realize he's good, but a lot of people talk about as being one of the all time great's based on large part on those three rings in 4 years. If Weis, Crennel and Pioli can put together a winner in KC, doesn't that take away from what Belichek did? Especially considering that he hasn't done a whole since then.

  • A different angle in the abortion debate?

I haven't seen this discussed on Yahoo (that doesn't mean it hasn't been, I just haven't seen it), so I thought I'd put it out there to see what the public consensus is:

If a woman has an abortion, should she be legally required to notify the father?

I don't care about your personal position on abortion, that's not what I'm asking for. If you opened this Q, you have a position, and whatever it may be, that's fine. But, for the sake of this Q, and in real life, abortion is currently legal. So, should the woman be required by law to notify the father?

As a possible aside, might required notification change the minds of some women?

  • A question about police and 'dangerous' individuals?

This sounds stupid, I know. I don't really believe it, but at the same time, it just might be true.

The rundown: A buddy was telling me about this guy he knows. The guy (not my friend) has been in prison for drug related incidents. He CLAIMS that because he has a certain level of martial arts training that he is listed a 'dangerous' and therefore the police, if they were to come and arrest him, don't have to announce themselves in any way, but can simply kick down the door and tackle/apprehend him.

Any truth to that? Can law enforcement just bust in based on 'martial arts training' or for any other reason? Like I said, it sounds like total BS, but then again, it sounds just dumb enough to be true.
