  • Why did the Paschal Lamb have to be male?

A core religious belief of Christians is that Jesus was the Paschal Lamb. In the Old Testament, the Israelites were instructed, "Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year." (Ex. 12:5) That specific gender stipulation is often cited as being among the reasons why the Apostles recognized Jesus as the Lamb of God. It sometimes is also cited as part of the foundation for the Catholic Church's insistence on a male clergy. Is there any explanation that is generally accepted for the "male" part of the requirement of the Passover Lamb? Were female lambs considered less worthy for any reason?

  • Disillusioned with Yahoo?

I would like advice on this from a "mature adult" perspective, just in case I'm over-reacting. This morning I received a notice from Yahoo Answers that I've been sanctioned for an answer I submitted yesterday, and that 10 points have been deducted from my small treasury. It was obvious that no one on the Answers staff bothered to read the question to which I responded and probably did not bother even to read my answer. The questioner noted in the bold-font section of the question "Christians only, no Arabs." Then a lengthy question described a ridiculously naive scenario that was total unrelated to ethics, morality, or religion of any kind. The questioner posed as a sucker for a phishing scam from some country in Africa, and pretended to solicit advice about whether or not to take the "bait" of sending the phishers "good faith" money of $5,000. Of course, the scam also involved circumventing the local tax laws of the African country so the sucker would have no legal recourse after being swindled. My impression was that the "No Arabs" restriction was just as phony as the scam and I tailored by answer that way - facetiously thanking the questioner for that "restriction" and offering my full support and best wishes in gaining all that easy money.

For Yahoo to not even bother to read the question and the context of my response is a bit weak on their part. To sanction me and threaten further action if I were to appeal - still without bothering to read the question and answer - is thoroughly unprofessional. Before I completely disentangle my accounts from Yahoo and be done with it, I thought I'd try to solicit opinions on this situation from cooler and less impassioned minds. Am I over-reacting? Was I wrong to be indignant about Yahoo and it's sanctions? Serious answers, please.

  • How to get rid of stink bugs in the garden?

Stink bugs ruined my tomatoes last year and they're about to do the same thing this year. I've tried eco-friendly insecticides but they don't work well - I have to drown each one with it individually it seems. They hide pretty well when I'm looking for them but I've still seen some waiting to taste my tomatoes as soon as they ripen. I'd really like to get rid of them as quickly as possible.

  • What needs to happen for medical costs to stop going up?

Costs have been rising each year for nearly the past century, and each year seems to show a larger increase than the preceding year. How will ordinary people two generations from now be able to afford medical care? What needs to happen for healthcare to remain an affordable option for working families?
