i know ncr = n!/(r!) (n-r)!

So (n-2)C2 should be (n-2)!/2!(n-4)! = (n-2) (n-1)/2(n-4)(n-3) (n-3) (n-1)

Am I wrong in my above understanding.Because I see in the correct answer of (n-2)C2 to be (n^2-5n+6)/2

How I proceeded . I checked with +ve,-ve and fractional values of x

Ex: when x=1/2 then 1/x=2 and 2x=1 and x^2=1/4

when x = -2 then 1/x= -1/2 , 2x=-4 and x^2=4

when x= -1/2 then 1/x=-2 ,2x=-1 and x^2=-1/4

when x=3 1/x=1/3 and 2x=6 and x^2=9

How I proceeded no. of ways of selecting 3 out of 8 engineers = 8c3=56

No of ways of selecting 2 engineers together = 28

So total ways of selecting engineers = 28.

But this is wrong.Please help

Answer is 20 but i am stuck at a particular point

simplfing we get 9+sqrt(80) + 9 - sqrt(80) - 2 (sqrt(9+sqrt(80)) (sqrt(9-sqrt(80))

=18 -2 [sqrt(9+sqrt(80) ] [sqrt (9-sqrt(80)]

How do I proceed.Please help
