Big D

So I got a ticket a few months back and didn't have an updated insurance card with me in my car. The officer checked the box on the ticket that said "no proof of insurance" and told me I would need to send proof with the check.

That is what I did. I sent money and proof of insurance the next day. I saw a few days later that the check was cashed and I was in the clear... or so I thought.

I was pulled over last night ( I knew the county officer) and he said that my license was suspended and I would not be able to drive at all. Another officer showed up, who I also knew, and said that they must have forgotten to uncheck that box when I sent in the check.

They let me go with no ticket but said I couldn't drive for three years unless I did something to change the suspension.

Here is my question:

What are my options now? I've always been insured. I have to drive over 40 miles to work everyday but I can't with this suspension. Also all of the towns around me are basically shut down right now because of a storm that took out all power for at least a week so I can't get into the DMV to get this corrected.

Any advise would be appreciated!
