Lawrence Of Rome
Hi! That guy in the picture is Saint Lawrence of Rome incase you were wondering.
Has anyone figured out where the messaging option is?
This new layout is evil. And it seems to have broken the messaging feature. This angers me because I was in the middle of one and would like to continue it. If I use the reply link that comes with every message, it just takes me to my profile page.
Has anyone figured out where it is? Or did Yahoo just get rid of it?
4 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenI don't want to brainwash my kids into potty training?
I want to teach them *HOW* to think, now *WHAT* to think, because that would be brainwashing. Should I just let the rascal poop and pee wherever he pleases until he comes to the age of reason, and then gently, subtly explain to him the pros and cons of potty training and a-potty training?
Should I then use the same approach to morality? I don't think it would be right to brainwash them and tell them it is immoral to steal cookies.
Again, I'm just trying to be a tolerant, good human being, because I know what a horrible, unforgiveable "sin" it is to tell your own children how to act and what to believe. Or does that only apply to certain things? If so, I'd *LOVE* to hear how this is determined.
4 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenChristians, quick, the unbelievers have discovered we secretly worship Quetzalcoatl, what now?
Quetzalcoatl was a pre-columbian mesoamerican god depicted as a feathered serpent. The Aztecs believed he created men by cutting his genitals and bleeding onto the earth. His cult sacrificed butterflies and humming birds to him. Oh, and humans killed in varying gruesome ways.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201307...
For our friends who don't trust links, it is a Zeitgeist type question claiming (among other ludicrously false things) that Jesus is a reskinned Quetzalcoatl.
So my question to Christians, is, what do we do now that we have been found out?
8 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenCan we agree that "no contemporary attestation, therefore Jesus wasn't real" is ridiculous?
There is no contemporary attestation for Hannibal, either, the first source we have (correct me if I am wrong) is from Polybius, decades after Hannibal died.
The man who brought the Roman Republic to its knees doesn't have a "contemporary attestation," but now in order to convince "Jesus mythers" that Jesus existed, we need to have one of a man who most saw as a poor carpenter turned itinerant preacher? Really?
Hannibal is just a single example, I am sure there are *plenty* of similar situations with historical characters, and due to the nature of ancient sources, not their non-existence.
16 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenWhy is everyone so desperate to hijack Pope Francis?
(First off, sorry to my contacts, I know I asked the same question earlier, but people continue to say that the Pope jsut changed Catholicism and now teaches that Atheists are saved)
I'm tired of this. The man is a carbon copy of Pope Benedict XVI in every way that really matters, he just has different focuses due to different backgrounds (a South American Jesuit is bound to be slightly different than a German theologian)
At his election, the media was going wild, women priests are imminent because he cooked his own food in Argentina! Ermagerd, he didn't wear the red shoes, that must mean he will embrace gay Marriage!
And now the latest, the Pope says that Jesus died for everyone, and that Atheists are able to do good things. Completely ancient Catholic teaching, that anyone can be used by God for His glory, even those who don't follow Him. But just in my brief time on this board today, people claim that the Pope said Atheists go to Heaven, and that he now teaches universal salvation.
Why are people so desperate to paint everything the poor man does as radical, heretical, and modern?
The Pope is Catholic. Get over it.
7 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenShould we set up places for parents to beat children?
We should legalize child beating. If we do that, we can set up special places for parents to beat their children and minimize the damage. Keeping it outlawed obviously isn't stopping it from happening.
Abortion should be legal because it will happen if we outlaw it or not. We should keep it legal to limit the damage.
You see any difference in those lines of reasoning? Because I don't.
If something is inherently evil, like abortion or beating children, it should be illegal regardless of the pains that come with making it so. End.
Please don't get into if abortion is moral or not, this is about people who believe it is immoral, but are prochoice because of the reasoning above.
12 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenSomething that just plays music?
I was looking for mp3 players, but they all come with things I don't want. I don't want apps, video, internet, etc. I just want something I can play music from my PC on. I would like it to be cheap, but also have a decent amount of memory. Durability would also be nice.
Thanks
4 AntwortenMusic & Music Playersvor 8 JahrenWhy does Youtube buffer so much?
When I load a video, it just loads up the first few seconds and then stops loading for a minute or two. Then it loads up a few more seconds then stops. Eventually, the whole video will just load all at once, though.
This doesn't happen on any other online video players (like Vimeo), so I know it isn't my internet. I've tried disc clean up, removing my temporary files, and defragging.
Any ideas about how to solve this?
2 AntwortenYouTubevor 8 JahrenHow do you get fingerprinted in PA?
I am going to become a priest. To enter the seminary, I need a criminal background check. To get this background check, I must send in my fingerprints, and they must be done by a certified technician. The form that the seminary gave me directed me to get printed at my local police station. I went to the local police station, but they told me that they cannot help me. Instead, they directed me to an agency called Cogent. I tried to register so I could get an appointment, but then found out that they only fingerprint people if they are entering a government agency like the Department of Education.
This is a huge headache.
Can anyone help?
5 AntwortenLaw Enforcement & Policevor 8 JahrenWould you say this is a fair comparison of Christianity and pre-columbian religions?
(in response to a question about forced conversion in the New World)
"Because their way of life was superior and sustainable and Christianity is a death cult so they couldn't have "savages" running around naked celebrating life."
Yes, you read right, "celebrating life."
And I whole-heartedly agree with that, if, by "celebrating life," you mean flaying innocent children to make rain come.
Praise Tlaloc!
7 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenWhy do people not care about Tonya Reaves?
Everyone was taking advantage of and politicizing the death of the Indian woman in Ireland. Pro-choicers say she died of "not-having-an-abortionitis" before she was even examined for a cause of death.
Why isn't anyone outraged about the death of Tonya Reaves? She died of having an abortion. Her crappy planned parenthood doctors killed her and her unborn child. But there is no public outcry from you guys (the ones up in arms about Irish abortion laws). In fact, I didn't learn about her until today, months after she has died. The media doesn't care when that happens.
If the death of this unnamed Indian woman prompts looser abortion laws in Ireland, then why doesn't the death of people like Tonya prompt harsher abortion laws in the US? Or, perhaps, and this is quite radical, maybe we should try mourning the dead instead of using them for our own political agendas.
6 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 9 JahrenProof read my intro for AP English?
I am going into 12th grade AP English. I know this is the University section, but I though that more people might be here and that you'd be more helpful than the primary and secondary education section.
The prompt is: "Death of a Salesman depicts a conflict between a parent and a son. Write an essay in which you analyze the sources of the conflict and explain how the conflict contributes to the meaning of the work. Avoid plot summary"
Ancient Greek bards tell us that, in the beginning, the Titans ruled the entire universe with an iron fist. Their king was Uranus. But that changed when he was killed from a conflict with his own son, Cronus, who took the throne for himself. Cronus, in turn, was eliminated by a coup d’état led by his son, Zeus. Since parental conflict is present even in the earliest foundation of our Western Culture, it is no surprise that it has always been a cornerstone of our stories. It manages remains fresh throughout the ages because it is so much a part of the human experience. But Arthur Miller goes above and beyond with “Death of a Salesman,” infusing this classically aged conflict with criticisms of contemporary materialism. In essence, this screen play is driven by conflict between a father and son about what makes a man successful and happy, it Is a commentary on problematic interpretations of the American dream.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
3 AntwortenHigher Education (University +)vor 9 JahrenCan someone try help me understand the mind of anti-Catholic fundies?
The ones that say Constantine started the Catholic Church. I mean, what do they think actually happened in Nicea? Did Constantine just set up the hierarchy by putting robes on Nicene bums and then somehow immediately establish the entire Catholic Church throughout the known world?
And then there is the blatant evidence that there was Catholicism before Nicea, did Constantine just fabricate it all or what? For Christ's sake, we had over 30 Popes by that time! Were they all completely made up or what?
17 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 9 JahrenDoes anyone know of studies comparing the happiness of adherents to different religions?
I was looking for a study comparing the happiness and stress levels of Catholics to some group like Mainline Protestants or Fundamentalists, but nothing came up. It seems interesting enough, am I unable to find the studies or has no one ever taken interest in it?
2 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 9 JahrenWhy do people think "hail" means "you are God"?
I get flak all the time, that because I say the "Hail Mary", that I worship Mary as some sort of "other God." Hail is nothing more than a greeting, people, used by Gabriel himself in the Gospel of Luke. If you think saying "Hail Mary" is pagan, then go after Gabriel, not us Catholics, Anglicans, Confessional Lutherans, etc.
So do people think this way because they are willingly ignorant and just ignore what Catholics say about our faith, or are they *actually* ignorant and think that we Catholics are all doing one big group lie because we are some kind of malevolent hive mind?
2 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 9 JahrenWhat do you think about this article about Catholic women?
It is about that phony 98% thing that everyone *always* throws around whenever Obama's infringement of religious freedom comes up.

Worse, now I see people saying that 98% of Catholic women use birth control. At least before they said what the study did, "HAVE USED"
5 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 9 JahrenWhy do so many think the Bible Canon was decided at the Council of Nicea?
It wasn't. It was decided at the Councils of Hippo and Carthage in the late 300's.
Are there bad history teachers or something? Because is see this repeated ridiculously often.
6 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 9 JahrenWhy do some fundamentalists think they "win" when they do this?
I call it the "Fundie Flood", they just spam a whole books worth of horrible arguments and because you don't want to deal with each one (because they will just continue fundie flooding when you actually do), they think they "win"
Here is an example (your eyes may bleed)
If the Bible is a Catholic book,
1. Why does it condemn clerical dress? (Matt. 23:5-6).
2. Why does it teach against the adoration of Mary? (Luke 11:27-28).
3. Why does it show that all Christians are priests? (1 Pet. 2:5,9).
4. Why does it condemn the observance of special days? (Gal. 4:9-11).
5. Why does it teach that all Christians are saints? (1 Cor. 1:2).
6. Why does it condemn the making and adoration of images? (Ex. 20:4-5).
7. Why does it teach that baptism is immersion instead of pouring? (Col. 2:12).
8. Why does it forbid us to address religious leaders as "father"? (Matt. 23:9).
9. Why does it teach that Christ is the only foundation and not the apostle Peter? (1 Cor. 3:11).
10. Why does it teach that there is one mediator instead of many? (1 Tim. 2:5).
11. Why does it teach that a bishop must be a married man? (1 Tim. 3:2, 4-5).
12. Why is it opposed to the primacy of Peter? (Luke 22:24-27).
13. Why does it oppose the idea of purgatory? (Luke 16:26).
14. Why is it completely silent about infant baptism, instrumental music in worship, indulgences, confession to priests, the rosary, the mass, and many other things in the Catholic Church?
In fact, it can be shown that the New Testament books were gathered into one volume and were in circulation long before the Catholic Church claims to have taken its action in 390 at the council of Hippo. In the following we list some of the catalogues of the books of the Bible which are given by early Christian writers.
326. Athanasius, bishop at Alexandria, mentions all of the New Testament books.
315-386. Cyril, bishop at Jerusalem, gives a list of all New Testament books except Revelation.
270. Eusebius, bishop at Caesarea, called the Father of ecclesiastical history, gives an account of the persecution of Emperor Diocletian whose edict required that all churches be destroyed and the Scriptures burned. He lists all the books of the New Testament. He was commissioned by Constantine to have transcribed fifty copies of the Bible for use of the churches of Constantinople.
185-254. Origen, born at Alexandria, names all the books of both the Old and New Testaments.
165-220. Clement, of Alexandria, names all the books of the New Testament except Philemon, James, 2 Peter and 3 John. In addition we are told by Eusebius, who had the works of Clement, that he gave explanations and quotations from all the canonical books.
160-240. Turtullian, contemporary of Origen and Clement, mentions all the New Testament books except 2 Peter, James and 2 John.
135-200. Irenaeus, quoted from all New Testament books except Philemon, Jude, James and 3 John.
100-147. Justin Martyr, mentions the Gospels as being four in number and quotes from them and some of the epistles of Paul and Revelation.
Besides the above, the early church fathers have handed down in their writings quotations from all the New Testament books so much so that it is said that the entire New Testament can be reproduced from their writings alone.

Have there been any formal medical studies done on rituals such of the Catholic one of Communion?
Many do not partake because they believe that they will catch something, but since the wine used is alcoholic, I always figured it would kill most everything. Besides, I am exposed to disease all day in public, I would find it hard to believe that the Cup is that bad compared to my school or a store.
