Whether one uses (h,k) or (d,e) seems a matter of choice, but the negative within parentheses versus the positive in second seems a significant difference. Are they both equally valid? If so, when use one versus the other?

Anyone know the source of this story: a city/palace guard is chasing a thief for many days. After weeks of effort, he finally corners the thief. As the guard moves in, I think the thief spits in his face (or something). The guard suddenly backs down and starts to leave. The thief asks, "Why aren t you going to kill me?" Am searching for source of something a friend attributes to Teilhard de Chardin.

Apparently Teilhard wrote that at some future point in human culture/society, things will become so bad (crime, war, etc) that the only positive thing left will be to love one another.

Would like to find the complete essay or chapter this came from.

Specifically, where the writer should start letter stroke; when (and if) the pen is ever lifted to continue a given letter; etc.

Remember, this is being asked by someone who has zero previous knowledge of abjad. It was a small revelation to me just to learn it is written right to left.

If there are no sites showing this, are their perhaps children books/primers?

On a chess board, correct play is to orientate board so that a black square is in player's lower left (thus white square lower right).

Most, but not all, backgammon boards I've seen, have the one-point as white/light (and 24-point is black/dark).

Is there an established convention as to what is correct for a backgammon board?
