I know a group of male students would be Studenten and a group of female students would be Studentinnen. What would the correct German word for a mixed-gender group of students be?

I've had my DSLR (Canon 30D) for about a year now. I feel like I take "good" photos and I enjoy doing it. I don't think I'm at the level where I "create" photos, and I also put very little effort into post production. I think part of the reason for this is that I dread my photos' fates as they're lost to the black hole that is my hard drive. Quite simply, I don't know what to DO with my photos.

I know I could get involved with Flikr, but to me it seems like another black hole - photos lost in a sea of photos and crappy "#1 NATUR PHTOS GRUP!!!!" groups.

I don't think my photos are good enough to make any money off them (but it would be nice).

What do YOU use as your motivation to go beyond just taking photos for the enjoyment? What do YOU use as motivation to pick through your photos and give the great ones the time they deserve in post production?

It's said that if you want to prolong the shelf life of a battery you should put it in the fridge. That makes sens to me because it's slowing down the internal reactions of the battery.

However, whenever I walk to class with my laptop in the winter or have my camera in my pocket in the winter it significantly decreases the charge on the battery. Why this contradiction?

Recently I've come to see more and more the blight that cars are on humanity. Feet, bikes and public transport are infinitely better than cars for a good many reasons. However, in most North American cities cars account for upwards of 90% of travel. As someone who's interested in the elimination of cars, I want to know why this is. So my big question to you is: What would it take to get you to ditch your car?

I've been home brewing beer for quite some time and it usually turns out ok but not great. I brew from quality extract kits and use malt instead of dextrose sugar as I find it prevents the beer from having a wine-like taste.

I opened a few bottles of my last batch of red ale a week after bottling because my parents were down to visit and I wanted them to try it. It tasted delicious (although slightly lacking in carbonation). In fact, it was good enough that I would pay money at a pub for it. However, now when I drink it a few weeks later I find that it has a very alcoholic taste to it. It's not near as enjoyable. What could be causing this? I bottle condition my beer with 0.2kg of dextrose to 23L of beer and let it sit at room temperature in the bottles.

The terms of this fight are that there are no weapons and that it takes place in an empty arena that is enclosed but also very large. We'll also assume that the eagle has been somehow informed that it's fighting to the death.

I know EF-S lenses are designed for certain Canon cameras (XT up to 40D), but what is the advantage of them? I was originally made to understand that the EF-S lenses took into account the 1.6x crop factor so that the EF-S 17mm-85mm was indeed effectively a 17mm-85mm equivalent and not effectively 27mm-136mm. The more I read, the more I'm beginning to feel that this is not the case. If this is not the case, then why would I want an EF-S lens as opposed to the more widely compatible EF lenses?
