I'm helping my sister with a freshmen programming course. It asks to create a simple program that prompts the user for a base 10 number (limited from 0-255) and then converts it into base 8 and base 2 and spits that out.

I have very little programming knowledge, but i can get it to ask the user for the number. Then i'm stumped. Any ideas on what code i need to put in next??

If there's a general python help site anyone knows, that would help too.

Is it that unreasonable?

On economic issues, I tend to be more moderate, not really being that much a fan of social welfare / government retirement programs.

But its so hard for me to vote for parties/officials that share those economic views because they just happen to be full of religious nuts, pro-life fascists, and worst of all, gay-bashing homophobes, the people I hate most in this world (I'm completely straight, I just hate those that hate people because of what their horrible religion tells them).

I not only disagree with these people, but my worst fear is being mislabelled as one of them. I just don't want to say I voted Conservative (I live in Canada, that's the name of the party) and have people think I'm anti-gay marriage or a religious believer. or any of that other nonsense

Is that being close-minded? Or just more passionate about social liberty?

Anyone else have a similar dilemma?

I got into a small accident yesterday that resulted in no damage to my car, but damage to the other drivers. I'll say right now I was at fault, I don't want to get insurance companies involved cause I'm 19 and my rates will skyrocket.

There is a dent on her driver's side door. Just the front door. The dent doesn't make it to the back doors, or to the front of the vehicle, its completely isolated on the driver's side door. The dent is fairly large, taking up most of the door (about 12 inches long) and maybe 2 inches deep at its deepest.

To anyone good with cars (I certainly am not): How much do you think this would cost to fix?

I was thinking if it was less than $800 I'd just pay her and move on, I don't want this on my insurance, I have final exams coming up, I'm willing to throw some money at the problem.

Her dad calls me today, says the he got an estimate as "$3900" This has to be ********, am I right? I know nothing about cars, but with NO engine damage, NO driving damage, just a DENT, this can't be that much. Wouldn't it be cheaper to replace the door. Its a 2002 Buick Sabre if it makes any differance, nice car but its just a door!

HELP! Any estimates guys and gals? What do I do now (first accident), haggle? Get my own estimate done? (it just snowed a ton this morning, shops will be packed) Bluff and tell her to call the insurance companies?

Someone please tell me its NOT POSSIBLE for it to be $4grand, please, worst case scenario, some wires got ****** up, it cannot be that much!

Seriously, demcocracy doesn't work because the majority of the electorate are uneducated, unintelligent, socially backwards idiots.....

Today was the Alberta Provincial Election.

The Liberal party ran a great campaign with an emphasis on reducing university tuition by 1000$ a year (to make it closer to national averages), and me and all my university friends went out and voted for them today, often waiting in lines for 30minutes to an hour.

Then the poles close and the conservative party who had no plan for education or healthcare get a massive majority (73 seats vs. 8 seats )

It just feels like we all wasted our time voting. Whats the point? No matter how much you fire intelligent young people up to vote Liberal, the Senior Citizen pricks go out in huge numbers and vote Conservative becasue they're old, homophic bible-thumpers.......its always gonna be like that......

Should I just stay home next election and not even bother?

I'm 18, I'm in my first year of post-secondary study. I currently live at home, and have a great commisioned part-time job, that is full time during summer break and when get time off school.

I save enough money to completly pay my tuition, textbooks, transport and any money I need for a social life The only thing I need from my parents is a place to sleep, and a 1 or 2 meals a day. I pay my own cellphone and internet access, and do all my own chores. I estimate with continuing my job, I can be out of school completly debt free, and then can move out and be off to a great start.

Yet I fell really constricted at home. Curfews as to when I have to be home, can't keep alcohol. cigerettes, or anything else like that around, can't walk around naked....its really cramping my style.

Should I take some student loan and move out and live on campus in a residence (about 4 grand for 2 semesters and pay for my own foodelectricity, or should I just stay it out the next 4 years?

Any ideas?

I've come up with a hypothetical situation to convince any young men out there why they must be pro-chioce, and can never be pro-life or against abortion in any way:

Imagine 2 different societies, lets label them 'A' and 'B'.

In society A, abortion is complety illegal. There is no choice what-so-ever, doctors legally have to inform the parents of young girls who come in for paternity testing that are pregnant, and strict laws convict those who perform illegal abortions and those women that seek them.

In society B, abortion is legal, safe, and free. It is a medical service offered under government health insurance. There are walk in abortion clinics on every corner, where young girls can get abortions without their parents being informed. It is completly socially acceptable.

Now my question to any young men out there is this:

In Which Society (either A or B) do you expect young women (age 14-25) to be more promiscious and more free about their sexualtiy?

Opening night of a play I'm in is on tuesday. It involves alot of movement so I don't want to be sore, but still want to be "pump"-ed, that is to say in that zone after a work out when you are really tightened up, and feel really good.

Any recommendations for what I should do the morning of?

I'm fairly average for my height, I'm 6'1' and 160lbs.

I need to get pretty toned for a small independent university movie I'm doing that requires several shirtless scenes. So I need to work on abs, pecks, and upper arms.

I'm not fat, and when I flex my abdominals I feel they are pretty hard and you an start to see the lines forming, but I have a little layer of loose skin over them.

I've put myself on a strict diet, only drinking water and milk, and eating lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, eggs, and lean meats. I've been working out, running 5 km every morning and doing 100-150 basic crunches a day (spread out throughout the day) and small weight-lifting

Is there anything else I can do to acheive my goal? Are there any exercises I can do that would be more specialized for what results I want? Any other healthy living tips you athletic buffs have?

I'm 18, and over the past few months I gradually have been giving up religion. I was never very much into it in the first place, but recently I finally realized how organized religion is crap. Reading more and more books about it, watching more and more lectures on youtube by the genius minds of Hitchens, Dawkins, and Harris. I'm now fully confident in my atheism.

but I still live with my overly religious parents. And my best friends are all religous. And this year (first year at university), I've met soo many amazing people that happen to be religous, and really don't wan't to sacrifice friendships and alienate people from me by being vocal about my atheism. I also don't wan't to get kicked out of the house, or lose all contact with my family.

Is their anything wrong with just 'playing along' with the idea of God to not rock the boat?

Is anyone else (young person) in a similar situation fearing the backlash of coming out as an atheist?

This happened to me in Biology class a couple of months ago.

We were discussing genetics, and had to do some research on in-vitro fertilization, and motherhood after menopause, and all those sceintific advancement stuff. I went home and wrote a little bit about the pros and cons about it, mentioning for the cons how often the children will be unhealthy if the mother if over 45 giving birth, the psychological impact of a child being raised by a parent who is a senior citizen, the strain on the public healthcare systems for these treatments, all logically based arguements.

I come to class the next day ready to talk about this, and to my surprise the Bio teacher doesn't say a word about any of this stuff, he just asks "Should people play God like this?" and "Is this what God would want?" and "Is genetic engineering/cloning against God's creation?"

Most people didn't care because its a public senior high school and most kids are strung out on drugs or have family issues, or don'l

I think its a great thing. I live in Canada, and I think you guys are incredibly lucky to have such a large group of cheap, unskilled labout.

Example: My room is really dirty. Its a total mess. There are books, clothing, coints, and candy wrappers everywhere. My parents are yelling at me to clean it, but I'm to busy. I go to university full-time, and have a part-time job, and today I'm cramming for midterms. It would take me a good 4 hours to clean this room top to bottom, but I just don't have that time.

I would gladly pay some poor, underpriveledged illegal immigrant $20-$25 to clean it. Try telling that to a legitimate cleaning service here. They'd laugh at you and say they want 80 bucks for 4 hours of cleaning. I wish I lived in Arizona, or California, or Texas, some state where I could walkt to the welfare office line and offer 20 bucks to clean my room. You Americans should consider yourselves lucky for illegals.

its the Salary grid for the public school system in my hometown of Calgary Alberta Canada.

Considering the Canadian dollar is now at par witht the US greenback, I can now finally ask this question:

Is that a good deal for new teachers? I'll probably finish my education with 5 years of post-secondary education, and student teaching counts as a 1 on the "experiance system", with each additional experiance credit based on 3 semesters of teaching (so 1.5 years, or 1 year with summer school)

Compared to your school board is somewhere in the neighborhood of 50K a year for a recent grad seem competative, as opposed to other options with your degree?
