Bridesmaid dress as wedding dress?
My fiancee and I are having an informal wedding, so I don't want to wear a traditional wedding dress. I've found some bridesmaids dresses that I like in white, but when I go into the store to check them out, should I let the sales person know that I would be using it as a wedding dress? I'm afraid that she/he wouldn't allow me to buy a bridesmaids dress for a wedding rather than purchasing one of their bridal gowns.
23 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntHow to NOT walk down the aisle?
My fiancee told me that he doesn't want the bridal party (or anyone in the wedding) to walk down the aisle. (we are getting married in a banquet hall - however, he said that this would still be the case if we were marrying at a church). He says it's awkward and not "us." We're going to have a cocktail hour with a champagne toast prior to the ceremony. So, how do we go from the cocktail hour to the ceremony without making it looked too forced or awkward?
Also, I don't think it makes sense for the bridesmaids to use flower bouquets since they'll be mingling and I don't want them to have to carry their bouquets during the cocktail hour. They could leave them at the ceremony site, but they'd really only be using them for 10 minutes or so. I'm thinking they could wear corsages instead. Would this look okay? And would I still use a bouquet? Please keep in mind that we are having a fairly untraditional wedding.
10 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntIs this rude?
My fiancee and I are marrying at a place where the chapel overlooks the reception room and guests watch the ceremony from their tables. We were thinking that rather than walking down the aisle (since it'd be more like making our own aisle in a path past the tables) we'd host a cocktail hour and have a champagne toast before the two of us procede to the chapel to marry. To recognize our families, I'd like our immediate families to sit with us at the head table (my parents & brother and his parents, brother and sister). All of our siblings have significant others and two of the three have children. Is it rude to ask our immediate fam to sit with us at the head table and seat their guests nearby?
13 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntIndoor Wedding Ceremony?
If you were having your wedding here (http://www.marygoldmanor.com/ceremonies.html#clips how would you set up for the ceremony? I don't like the flowers creating the aisle but I'm not sure what other options are available. I'm not committed to this place - just looking.
10 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntLosing 20 lbs.?
I've gained 20 lbs. in the last year because I started working a desk job. I used to be a size 3 but now I'm a size 8 (I miss my clothes!). I want to lose the weight relatively quickly because I'm getting married, and I need to try on wedding dresses within a few months. I'd like to get down to 100 lbs. again (I'm 5' tall). I started a diet this week. Here is what I ate today:
9 am - Sandwich bag of oats and honey cereal; two bites of caramel rice cake
1: 30 pm - Turkey sandwich on wheat bread with mustard; baked Lay's; three bites of apple
5:30 pm - Orange
6:30 pm - Pizza lean pocket
Exercise
6 pm - 200 jump ropes; 100 sit-ups
I had only water to drink.
Will I lose weight like this? Should I do more exercises?

Has anyone married here or taken a tour of the facility? I'm looking for alternative locations to marry in case my current site doesn't work out.
1 AntwortWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntWhat is the presbyterian stance on living together before marriage?
My fiancee and I are meeting with the pastor this sunday and i'm so afraid he's going to tell us that he can't marry us since we already live together. We are not members of the church (they marry non-members) but I would attend every Sunday throughout our engagement and probably after as well.
3 AntwortenMarriage & Divorcevor 1 JahrzehntHas anyone ordered silk flowers from save-on-crafts.com?
I have a bridal book that recommends this site and the flowers look nice (I'm looking for silk flowers that have a realistic look to them...if I do decide to go with silk flowers - still undecided). Can anyone tell me what the quality of their bouquets is like?

My fiancee and I are planning a wedding on St. Patrick's day weekend (next year). What do you think of this scenario for the attendants and for us?

My dress would actually be a bridesmaids dress in light green (I didn't want the traditional bridal dress with the train); I'd like to have a morning wedding and reception (if my dad will allow it).

What color was it? Did anyone comment? Do you have any pictures? I'd like to get an idea of what this looks like in the wedding environment.
15 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntWhat should bridemaids carry?
I'd rather not buy flower bouquets for my bridesmaids since I was in two weddings recently and used my flowers for a total of about 20 minutes before I ended up losing them or laying them down to wilt somewhere.
I'm thinking of having the bridesmaids wear wrist corsages (they'll be walking down with the groomsmen), carry baskets of rose petals, or carry a claddagh ornament (we're having an Irish themed wedding, but more specifically claddagh since we love the symbolism behind it). I would add a longer ribbon to the ornament http://www.oconnorsinc.com/site/product.cfm?id=424... and they would carry them like they would a rosary while wearing white gloves.
Which do you prefer?

I'd like to plan a unique wedding and would like my bridesmaids to carry something other than flowers. Any suggestions?
14 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntWill a presbyterian pastor marry a couple that already lives together?
I've already contacted several churches who say that they marry non-members and have sent me information about their wedding ceremonies. However, since I'm not a presbyterian, I'm not sure what their stance is on living together before marriage. Will this be a problem in having a ceremony at a presbyterian church?

Is it possible to wear a white prom dress as a wedding dress? I don't like any of the wedding dresses I've seen (I just want something simple) and I can't see spending a lot of money on a dress that I'll only wear once. Will this work?
21 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntHas anyone used disposable cameras at their wedding?
My fiancee and I were originally going to get married at city hall but due to protests from our families, we are now having a traditional wedding. Im thinking of hiring a professional photographer to take photos of the ceremony and having disposables on the tables for the reception. Has anyone used disposables at their wedding? How did the photos come out?
I'm not concerned with any photos being un-useable since Eckerd accepts any pictures you don't want (I used to work in the photo department there) so you only pay for the ones you keep.
21 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntWhy are so many people eager to put down Buffalo, NY?
I find it baffling that so many questions and answers I see on Yahoo say "Buffalo is a dirty industrialist city." While it is true that Buffalo was once a major industrial hub and the 8th largest city in the U.S., I feel like the people who say such unbelievably negative things about Buffalo have never even been here. I've lived here for two years and I love my city - especially it's 19th century architecture (some buildings are by Frank Lloyd Wright) and many museums. We have a great arts and music scene, and truly the weather isn't that bad.
I just don't understand why people from out of town are eager to perpetuate stereotypes that aren't true. Why is this? Why do those who have never stepped foot here feel obligated to put their two cents in?

18 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntRomantic Wedding Night?
My fiancee and I are eloping to Buffalo city hall in May. We're going out to dinner, lighting a candle at the Father Baker Cathedral and then walking around the Botanical Gardens. That evening, we'll spend the night at a hotel downtown. I'm going to make a basket for us. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can include and how I can make the night romantic?
These are my ideas so far:
1. Wine
2. Wine glasses
3. Candles
4. Jazz CD
5. Hershey Kisses
6. Massage Oil
Can you think of anything else?
13 AntwortenWeddingsvor 1 JahrzehntParty after elopement?
My fiancee and I are eloping and planning a party for both of our families to meet this August (I have a large family - 23 aunts and uncles). I'd like to be able to invite everyone to announce our marriage. I was thinking about having a BBQ outside, but where should we hold it and what activities should we have? What party themes are there that will work with this?
