  • Did Jesus intend that his life be understood as a sacrifice of the innocent to pay for the sins of the guilty?

If yes, can the words of Jesus himself be used exclusively to make this case?

We are assuming that Jesus is the one and only Son of God, a totally unique person in all of history and for the future of this planet. With this assumption it makes complete sense to understand what Jesus said about his life and the purpose of his coming to earth using his words as the final authority.

So if you believe the answer to this question is yes, then please use only the words of Jesus to make your case. Thanks!

  • Is materialism a dead-end philosophy? ?

Materialism as I am using it here is the idea that reality can be known only by direct perception of the senses and therefore only direct sense perception can give real knowledge. If you recognize this concept and have an opinion about materialism yeah or nay, then please take a few moments to consider the following and give me your opinion.

Materialism is a dead-end philosophy because the individual has no future beyond the death of the body.

It is obvious to any thinking person that we are individuals. I am not you and you are not me. The world is full of individuality on all levels, despite the commonality of the elements that compose the organisms.

A committed materialist will look to the genetics and/or the environment to account for the ultimate cause of individuality. The spiritualist will see the soul as the individual. So both the materialist and the spiritualist recognizes that individuality exists.

But as far as materialism is concerned, death is a dead-end for the individual because the body, the basis of individuality, merges into the other elements of the world. This is the dead-end of materialism.

I understand materialism holds out high hopes for the planet as long as enough wake up to our ultimate fate; a dead-end.

But as for you and me and everyone else we know, the death of the body is all materialism offers for a future for the individual.

So is materialism a dead-end philosophy?

  • Any connection between the word 'devil' and the word 'divide'?

I'm doing some research on any possible connection there could be between the historical use of the word 'devil' and the word 'divide' or 'division'.

Superficially there doesn't seem to be any connection. But remember that it is the Devil that is believed to be the first to separate or divide from God.

If anyone has anything tangible to offer, I would be very appreciative.

  • Did Jesus indicate that he was leaving it up to future generations to interpret his life and teachings?

If yes, what text indicates that?

If no, then why bother reading anything but what Jesus said?

  • Burning a DVD with wmv files?

I'm starting with wmv files (windows media player) and want to put them on a DVD that will play on my TV/DVD player. Nero will not do it as it requires ifo, bup, or vob files. So what program(s) do you use to convert wmv files to one of these formats? Please don't recommend a website with umpteen choices. If you don't currently use a program to do this, then please don't answer. A shareware or free-to-try program would be great. I've tried Super, but it doesn't convert to iso or bup or vob from wmv. Thanks.

  • Why are most people very serious about money and their material possessions...?

which they can't take with them when they die, but spirituality is just fun and games? We are not these bodies, but spirit soul, so why do most people -- like at least 99.99%-- waste so much time caring for a dying body that is constantly giving us suffering? In the same vein, why do most people think we are this lump of flesh, bone, blood, stool, urine, pus, and other disgusting things when its obvious to any intelligent person that the body is just the vehicle we ride in? The body changes constantly -- every cell is replaced at least every 7 years-- yet we think that we are this body. How ridiculous is that?
