  • Spice up my 30 gal?

I have a Senegal bichir (dinosaur eel) that lives in a 30 gal. She's happy for now, as I do plan on upgrading her tank. However, I've just gotten plain bored of her. She hides a lot, but kills all her tank mates. What could I do to make her more interesting? I've considered taking her back but I've had her almost two years.

I don't want to stress the fish, but I still want to change something. Any advice/ideas?

If you think I should get something else, what would you recommend?

  • Answering in the fish category?

So as I've been reading through questions, ivd noticed people come across really negatively towards people that do something wrong. Why?

Yes, I know its cruel for a goldfish to be in anything less than 30 gallons, or a betta, 5. But is it really necessary to get nasty with people?

It is ADVERTISED for them to live in that way, so of course people will think that's how it works. And of course there are the pet store workers that give out false names. Of course people will have no clue what they're doing.

Why so mean about telling people what is right?

  • URGENT! sick black molly?

I've had her for a year. She's recently been giving birth once a month. She's in a 10 gal (don't bother telling me she needs to be in something else) and its heated and has 1 tbs salt per 2 gal of water. She was fine yesterday, showing no illness signs.

This morning she was staying in the back of the tank, hiding more than usual, and has very very rapid gill movement. What could be wrong? She has no spots, except for a red spot on one eye. Her appetite is normal and she not rubbing on anything.

I'd hate to lose her, she's been around too long

  • Tank mates?

I've had my Senegal bichir (dinosaur eel) for almost a year. She's about six inches long and in a 30 gallon tank. She seems happy and has plenty of places to hide. I've recently been looking into a fish for my 20 gal that can't have tan mates and it got me to thinking about her.

Can she have tank mates? The only other fish she's had in there were minnows for eating. Would I be better off getting another bichir? And if I accidentally get a male how likely is it that they will mate?

  • Fish back to pet store?

So I have a bunch of snails, babies absolutely everywhere. I've been told by a local pet store that they will take my excess Molly fry, but what about snails? I'd like to save up store credit for a while and invest in something big (I know it'll be a while) so will they take the snails? And roughly how much store credit for each?

  • Molly fry coloration??

I've had my black mollies for almost a year, and the female never had babies until three months ago. Today she dropped another set of fry and I noticed one is a dalmation?? I don't understand, because she hasn't been around any other type of male Molly except the black one I have now

    2 AntwortenFishvor 6 Jahren
  • Why wont they breed?

So I had one male and one female Molly (the other females had died and I was low on money)

When the female began showing signs of pregnant, I bought another female, also pregnant. The other, a dalmations, was basically for learning before the black fry come (my favs)

Now I have a black male that won't breed with the female dalmation? It's been 3 months since her last fry, and the black female is pregnant and ready to drop fry again.

    Why??

  • Fire-belly toad? Aggression?

So I kinda got a firebelly toad given to me, no one else could take it. I breed mollies, and this is a bit out of my norm.

Anywho, I have him in a 10 gal with roughly two to three inches of water and two spots he can get up out of the water easily. It is not filtered, but has a bubble thing in it. As substrate I have large rocks scattered across the bottom.

The person who gave it to me claims its a male, but I've yet to hear him croak.

My questions is, why is he so aggressive? When I feed him (with tongs) he goes for my hand instead of the food. He gets a baby meal worm every morning. He's the only one in the tank, except for a couple very tiny snails.

I only have one, and its supposedly a male. Am I doing this right?

  • Jellyfish tank?

So I have this enormous pickle jar that has been cleaned out (no soap) and I'm deciding what I want to with it.

I've heard jellyfish tanks are good for beginners? How do you feel about that?

Is the jar (roughly 2 gallons) large enough? Idk anything about salt water but am interested in a small thing.

Suggestions? Ideas? Any info at all will help

  • URGENT PLEASE HELP?

My mollies are in a 10 gal. I have fry, about five, that I want to move into a larger tank. But I have an issue with diseases that hit the tank all of a sudden.

There is ich, and its being treated with the heat up and a little salt. That's not a problem but could be a factor.

The real question is, I have yet another disease that I've never seen before. It's green, and like a film. They're spots, and covering almost all of two of my mollies. They're not rubbing against anything or acting unusual. I need to know what this is asap in case it's deadly.

  • Glue/substrate?? Help please?

I'm wanting to put two apology in a 20 long. I've read that substrate is dangerous but still want to incorporate it. I also know that they need cooler water, which may be a problem. I won't know until I cycle my tank.

So how about doing mosaic tiles in the bottom? I'd like to adhere tiles to the bottom of the tank, but I need to know more about it.

Will the tiles hurt them? Is this a good or bad idea?

How to adhere tiles to the tank and seal it safely?

If there's anything I've not asked about thAt you think may be important please add it.

  • Urgent! Golden mystery snail?

I've had this little guy for months. He's grown a lot, and been very active. My fish have ich and I'm currently treating them, using a heater, since I didn't have one(i know bad fishkeeping)

Anyways, two days ago the snail appeared to be dead. He was upside down, not moving/reacting to anything, and his body was halfway out of his shell.

Today he was up on the side of the tank. Although he's alive, he isn't reacting to anything and his body is darker than normal. What's going on?

  • Dalmatian mollies baby. Healthy?? Help?

My dalmation Molly was bought pregnant. She had roughly 75 babies and now only 9 are left. They've been doing well for about a month, but I noticed their bellies are a bit large? Are they eating too much? I feed very small amounts twice a day, at 6am and 10pm, but I've seen them eat on my plants and the algea.

  • Axolotl? Color/size/setup/plants?

Okay so I've decided that I want to buy an axolotl. A pet store sells them locally for $20. I have a lot of questions.

I have a 20 long tank I'd like to house them in. Is this a good size?

What type of substrate is best and why?

    Will they eat snails?

What kinds of live plants do they prefer? And is moss a good plant? If so, could I do the bottom of the tank in moss?

How many can live happily and healthily in a 20 long?

My mollies thrive with a little salt. How about axolotl?

Temperature? Would they be happy with or without a heater?

Hand feeding? How would it work and could I use tongs?

If there's anything that Ive forgotten to ask that you think is useful by all means please mention

  • Mollies, babies, and salt?

So I've only recently heard that aquarium salt is good for mollies. I've never really used it before, and one female is pregnant and the other just had babies. In addition, I have what I think are platties but I'm not certain.

The question is, is it okay to add salt with the babies? And what about the other fish and the snail?and the live plants? How will they do?

If I can add the salt, what kind of ratio am I looking at?

Also, while my females are pregnant I TEMPORARILY put the male in a breeder box instead of the female. Is this okay for a few weeks? I have no other tanks avaliable just yet

  • Would like to work up to these setups for my 3 tanks. Lil advice? Good #'s?

Okay I have three tanks set up, cycled, and having something already living in two. I'd like to gradually add more to them until I have....

    In the 10gal-

    2 large mystery snails

    2 black mollies, 2 platties, and 2 ???

I also have 2 live plants in this one already

    In the 20 gal-

Want to use as a breeding tank but let the babies hide or die

    4 plants

    2 male mollies

    X # female mollies

    4 mystery snails

Some other type of bottom feeder, more for looks thank cleaning tank

    And in the 30 gal..

1 Senegal bichir (already in there)

Feeder fish (possibly Molly babies if I have excess)

Compatible bottom feeder, but idk what kinds are

    3-5 plants

This is assuming all plants are live. Can someone fill in the blanks with something easier to care for but also compatible?
