  • Will my DJ be offended?

I hired my DJ based on great referrals and had him do our engagement party before our wedding to see how he works.

I got a great deal by hiring him for both events instead of just the wedding, and I'm happy with his response times.. his professionalism, etc.

I gave him free reign for the engagement party and I have to admit.. I did not like his tastes very much. I did hear some rumbling that he was playing 'boring' songs and the music wasn't very lively.

For my wedding, I have quite a young crowd and I'm hoping for lots of dancing. I was working on a list of 'must play' songs, and added in the songs my guests have already requested via our wedding website, and I have a full 4 hour playlist!

Do you think my DJ would be offended if I gave him a complete playlist for the wedding? I included songs for each age range, and I trust it. Our DJ is also hired to be our emcee for the evening, so I see the value in keeping him around instead of just using an iPod.

    Thanks!

  • In need of some unbiased opinions :) (first dance)?

Hey! I am getting married in 8 weeks and I have been going back and forth on my first dance song for a long time!! It would be a huge help to get some impartial opinions. I love them both and my fiance is happy with either option.

  • What are my rights here?

I've been planning a fundraiser for the last 10 months. Last February, I booked the venue for this coming March (the event is in about 3 months).

Today, I looked at the venue's online event calendar and noticed that my event had been taken off, and there was another put on for the same day as my event.

I immediately called and left a message for the owner, and sent an e-mail as well. He told me that it had been double booked and there wasn't anything he could do.

I assume I will get my money back, but I have paid for a DJ, entertainment, countless raffle prizes, tickets (which I have also sold lots of already)... will the owner be liable for these costs as well?

    So enraged..

  • Receiving Line vs. Entrance?

I'm debating having a receiving line at my wedding next summer as opposed to an entrance before dinner.

I was in a friend's wedding on Saturday and she opted for an entrance. Dancing in to music was just awkward and I can't see myself doing that to my groom or my wedding party :)

They mingled with the guests during dinner and barely ate anything as they weren't at their seats. If I'm paying for the dinner at my wedding, I am darn well eating it!!

So in my case, I am having cocktail hour before dinner. Would we just arrive at cocktail hour after our pictures are finished and mingle with the guests there? Is that enough? Or would we still do a formal 'line' and greet everyone as they make their way into the reception hall for dinner?

Thanks for any help you can give :)

  • Marry Me -- Train...?

What are your honest opinions about the bridal party and the bride walking down the aisle to 'Marry Me" by Train. Link here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ess2qlVHl6E

I've been going back and forth on it. On one hand, I really like the song and can picture it working nicely. On the other hand, I can't decide if it's tacky and if I should just choose an overdone song like Canon in D.

    I would love your opinions.

    Thanks!!

  • How to Make the Morning Special?

I'm the MOH at a friend's upcoming wedding in exactly one month!

I have been to weddings before but I've never been IN a wedding before, so I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row.

I've prepared an "emergency kit" for the day of (aspirin, bandaids, needle, thread in the color of the wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses, etc etc.) but I want to know what I can do for the bride on the morning before her wedding to make it less stressful, fun and as easy as possible.

I'm playing around with the idea of waking up early, drawing her a bath and making breakfast with the bridesmaids while she gets some peace before the craze!

Has anyone done anything cute for the bride on the morning before the wedding? Is there anything I can do to make this an incredible experience even before she walks down the aisle?

    Thanks!

  • Bridal Shower Confusion?

I am the MOH in a friends wedding, and it's getting closer to the date of her bridal shower.

I'm planning the shower myself, and quite frankly... all of the bridesmaids are kinda useless. I've asked them a few times if anyone had any ideas for venue, theme, events, food, etc. I've not only gotten zero help, I've gotten zero response.

However, I do want to throw my friend a great shower, so I've coordinated everything on my own. I've got the date, the theme, the food, the games, everything decided on...the invitations are purchased (I got them custom to the theme) and I know the bride is going to love it.

I got a text from the bride the other day saying another one of the bridesmaids suggested a Fantasia party for her shower (kind of like a tupperware party... but for sex toys, etc.) and she LOVES the idea. The bride is stuck on this like glue, and 100% 'has to have it'. I'm frustrated because:

    1) I asked the bridesmaids for suggestions before and didn't receive an answer. I'm pissed that one went to the bride instead after everything was done (PS I didn't just decide. I updated the bridal party with 100% of my thoughts so none of this is a surprise to them).

    2) The venue is booked for 3 hours. That includes set up/take down. There is NO time for a fantasia party if we are going to do everything else I planned/paid for already.

    3) My invitations (according to my theme) are already purchased, as are the decorations. They are completely not 'Fantasia'. It is going to look/feel so stupid if I do both.

I've explained all of this to the bride (without telling her that her bridesmaids are useless) but she is insisting that I incorporate both. In my opinion, she's lucky she's even getting a bridal shower - if it was up to the other girls.... it would be going no where.

    Please help!

  • Bachelorette Party..?

I am the MOH at my best friend's wedding, and I am in the middle of planning her bachelorette party.

She would really like to spend the evening at a country bar with the groomsmen, so we are going to meet up with them to end the night.. however two of the bridesmaids are not of drinking age.. so I want to plan some activities during the day that are not too expensive, but really fun!

I was thinking of packing the girls in my car, blindfolding the bride, and trucking her around to some different places throughout the day to keep it a surprise :) I am playing around with laser tag... and somewhere fun for lunch.. but I don't know what else we should do.

If you've ever been to a unique bachelorette party.. please share! Thanks so much :)

  • If you were my bridesmaid, what would you prefer?

I'm getting married, and I am having a tough time choosing gifts for my bridesmaids.

Originally, I was thinking of treating my girls to a massage and maybe a mini-manicure at a gorgeous spa the morning before the wedding. I figured this was something they would enjoy, and wouldn't normally purchase for themselves. Plus who doesn't like to get pampered?

On the other hand, I could do personalized gift bags with each of their "favorite things". Favorite movies, candy, makeup, gift card to their favorite store, etc. with a handwritten letter. However these are things that they buy frequently for themselves, so I'm wondering... what would you prefer if you were one of my bridesmaids?

    Thanks :)

  • Maid of Honor regret?

I've been best friends with my MOH for years, and before we got engaged we vowed to be each other's maids of honor. She was proposed to about 6 months ago and held up her end of the deal, making me her MOH.

She has been such a bridezilla!! She gave each of us in the wedding party a one page long, typed list of "expectations", including buying 2 prizes for her stag and doe (they must first be "approved" by her) and purchasing a 40 of the alcohol of her choice, to contribute to the stag and doe.

We also had to purchase brown shoes for the wedding (totally fine, her wedding her choice!) and she said that we could wear either flats or heals, as long as we showed her first. I saw a great pair of brown flats and showed her a picture - she liked them so I made the purchase. Then, a couple weeks later she sent us all a message saying we can't buy flats anymore, she wants a heel. Annoying - but I exchanged the shoes for another pair that she had approved. Now, she sends us another message saying that she wants us all to wear black shoes instead. WTF lady, get your stuff together!! I am totally annoyed.

I recently got engaged myself, and reluctantly made her my MOH in return. She has been a nightmare! All of my bridesmaids get along, but they can't STAND her! We went dress shopping together and I found a dress that I am totally in love with, and she found nothing good to say! Since it is my wedding, and the dress looks stunning on everyone, I chose them. One of my bridesmaids was telling her that she looks GORGEOUS in the dress, and my MOH told her to "stop talking".. RUDE! I can't believe how she is acting.

She still hasn't purchased the dress... and I doubt she will. I even offered to pick it up for her if she is too busy. I think she plans on waiting until the dress is discontinued and wearing something else (I wont let it happen. I'd sooner tell her to stay home, at this point).

I feel like I've had many discussions with her about her behaviour already, what can I do???
