Sticker on my Suzuki frame, any ideas?
Hello,
I noticed this sticker today on my 1985 GSXR 750F. However it doesn't seem like a peeIable sticker. It shows a number 2 and I believe a Japanese symbol next to it. Never noticed one of these on my previous motorcycles. Any idea what its purpose is or meaning?
Thank You.
4 AntwortenMotorcyclesvor 3 JahrenWeber 28/32 2V TDLM - Air Correction Jets, Ford Escort MK4?
Hi.
Car - Ford Escort MK4 1.6 CVH
On the Weber 28/32 2V TLDM carb, does anyone know which side the air correction jets go at the top (As you're facing carb when it's on the car)? One has a slightly larger hole than the other.
Also there's emulsion tubes under these Jets, again one has a slightly larger hole then the other...I'm guessing this goes with the bigger holed air correction jet?
Cheers.
Here's a picture of the carburettor on currently -
1 AntwortFordvor 7 JahrenBleeding front brakes only?
Hi, I have a 1989 ford escort mk4 and the brakes were OK but not very good. I knew that some air had gotten into the system before, via a leaking servo gasket (This has now been sealed). Yesterday I decided to bleed the brake system of air, and I did the usual of attempting to start on the rears (Drum Brakes), furthest away from the master cylinder at front. However, I found that both drum brakes had seized bleed nipples, so unfortunately I could not get them off. I then went and did the fronts (Disc Brakes) and the nipples where able to be undone. I bled these two (Again, furthest away from cylinder first) and the fluid is now shooting out of the nipple with a good flow, before it was only drizzling out.
Now the problem is I can pump the brake and it will start to somewhat regain a good pressure, then when I stop pumping and wait a few seconds...I then go to push the brake pedal again and it has lost almost all of it. There is only a little pressure.
Do you reckon I should either try and get the rear brake nipples undone? to bleed them, or if not I'll have to purchase a new set of rear drum brakes I guess. Unless it's also possible to remove the brake line to the rears that's holding the fluid...and bleed the lines or something?
Thanks for any reply's.
5 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenInstalling a bigger cylinder head for more power?
Hi, kinda new to engines still and I currently have a 1.3 engine that seems to be worn out due to high mileage. I was going to rebuild it soon, after I had learnt more about them, but I also wanted to have a bit more increased power as with people in the car it's quite a bit sluggish. I've found the same engine, but it's a 1.6, will installing that cylinder head onto my current engine block give me a little extra power? Thanks.
7 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenEngine Swap, Help Needed?
Hi, I'm soon to swap out the engine in my ford escort MK4. It currently has a worn out 1.3 HCS engine in it, and is run by carburettor. I've found a 1.6 automatic engine from a escort MK6, but it's also fuel injected. I was told that I can remove the existing manifold on the auto engine, and put mine straight onto it so I can run carburettor'd. I was also told that I can remove the converter or whatever, and install my gearbox onto the engine to make it manual. Is this true? as I dont want to go buying the engine if it's not possible, I'd prefer manual & keeping it carburettor'd so I dont have to mess around replacing or cutting into the wiring loom.
3 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenHow to find out exact mileage of car?
Hi,
Just wondering if I can find the exact mileage of my car, it's a 1989 ford escort mk4. Only reason I want to is because the odometer reads around 43,500 but the thing is the odometer only has enough space for 5 digits. So for all I know, it could be 43,500 or 143,500. I'm just curious if it's possible to find out. I've tried doing a MOT history check online, through the Direct Gov website...but it only goes back to 2006 where it shows that the odometer was displaying 23k-24k miles. Of course I know it's not likely that is has only 43k miles, but It is possible...my 1993 Kia only has 33k genuine miles.

5 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenCar smoke from oil breather?
Hi, I own a Ford Escort 1.3L (1989).
I have noticed that the car has been smoking from the oil breather, and the smoke is also noticeable when you remove the dipstick. It seems to only smoke when the engine is warmed up, the smoke is not alot or that thick but it is there and noticeable (You can see it coming from under the bonnet at night). I did top up the oil to the correct mark a few days ago, today I have checked it again & it's still at the same level. However, I have noticed that I can smell hints of petrol when I smell the breather filter, and also when I remove the oil filling cap. The water / antifreeze in radiator is still fine, not milky or anything. No smell from it either. I asked a mechanic what he thinks, and he said that if it's smoking from the breather than the engine is probably tired and at its end. Just wondering what are peoples opinions on this? I was going to replace the oil and see how it goes, but I'm not sure if it'll help. Thank You.
4 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenRecommended PSI for 16 Inch Wheels?
Hi, not long acquired a new car (Ford Escort MK4).
It has had the wheels upgraded to 16 inch (I think originally they're 14" or 15"?), and I'm unsure what PSI to put into the tyres. Max on the side wall is 51 PSI, so I was thinking about 35 PSI in each would be suitable? The car has also been lowered a little if that makes any difference. Thank You.
4 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenCar problems when cold?
Hi,
I have a 1993 Kia Pride 1.1, and when cold the car is a pain. I'll start it up from cold, the choke will come on as normal. Then once choke goes off, the car will go to die (I'll have to step on the acceleration a little otherwise it does die). Then sometimes when I do go to step on the accelerator to keep it running, it like misses then comes back to life. Also when the car is cold and doing this, if I put my foot slowly down on the accelerator pedal, when it gets to about 1/4 of the way it misses and goes to cut out, if I carry on again it will come back to life. The problem is that when I try to drive away when the car is cold, or when the choke has gone off, the car kangeroo's like mad for a few minutes and it's somewhat annoying. The idle is also real lumpy when cold, it's not level and keeps dipping etc. Still the same when idle is turned up aswell. I understand that the car is old, but I dont think this is normal right?
When the car warms up properly, it's fine. However, the idle is still lumpy and still remains un-level. This is what lead me to think that it could be an intake leak causing the problem, what do you think?
I've cleaned the plugs, ran through some fuel treatment additive and changed the fuel filter - No changes, still have this problem. Any help please? Thank You.
5 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenEngine Management Light comes on, car wont pick up speed?
Hi, I'm asking this question on behalf of a family member.
She has a Vauxhall Zafira 2.0L Diesel.
The problem is that when the car is sitting at idle or sometimes on the move, the engine management light will come on. When doing this, the car will continue to rev as normal but it will hold back and not pick up speed, then the light will go off after a few seconds and the speed will pick back up and it will drive like normal. The fuel filter was changed, and also the glow plugs, but no change there. Fuel treatment has also been put through, along with injector cleaner. I've heard something about that it could be the 02 sensor, but not sure. Any suggestions? Thanks.
4 AntwortenMaintenance & Repairsvor 7 JahrenDump Valve / BOV sound without one installed?
Just a curios question...
I've got a stock 1993 Kia Pride 1.1L, all it has is a cherry bomb back-box. I got a friend to record me going past as I wanted to know what it sounded like outside, whether it be to loud or not. Near the start of the video, I took off in 1st gear and when I changed to 2nd I noticed a dump valve / blow off valve kind of sound. I was just curious, why did it do this? Is it because I went into high RPM's? I've never noticed it before, or heard it, but then again I dont usually go high RPM's in 1st gear. The car is carburettor'd, only has 30k miles on. Any Ideas? Thanks.
2 AntwortenOther - Cars & Transportationvor 7 JahrenRemoving details from a log book?
Hi, bought myself a first car. However, it's only ever had one owner and she passed away a few years ago. The car was given to her son, but he never sent off the log book as he hardly used it, being away in the army. He filled in the log-book with his details though, so I was wondering is it fine to tip-ex the words out in the boxes and then input my details? OR is it better to get a replacement sheet, and if so, would I go to the post-office to apply for one or phone the DVLA? Thank You.
5 AntwortenBuying & Sellingvor 7 JahrenFitted 'Racing Reed Valves' - Loss Of Performance!?
Hi. So I fitted racing reed valves (For the first time) today, and the performance has de-creased. I've lost a little acceleration, and on the top end I've lost around 10mph. The engine is a 100cc Minarelli 2 stroke one. The new reed valves that I placed in came with 6 valves. Where as the stock ones had only 4. The mods on the scooter so far are; Open air filter, Exhaust system, Re-Jetted, Racing Variator, Lighter Rollers, Up-Rated clutch springs. Before, it would pull off the line sluggish then shoot into the powerband. Now, it does pull a little better off the line but it feels like it's holding back and the powerband is not as harsh. I was wondering, is their a 'break in period' for these reed valves? Or has something gone wrong somewhere. Thank You.
2 AntwortenMotorcyclesvor 8 Jahren2 Stroke - Racing Reed Valves?
I ordered some racing reed valves yesterday, and was just wondering will the effects be noticeable? I've heard claims of improved throttle response, but have no idea personally. Is there anyone who has used them before? They're being used on a stock 100cc 2 stroke engine. It does have an after-market exhausts system though, an open air-filter & is jetted to match if that makes a difference. Thanks.
2 AntwortenMotorcyclesvor 8 JahrenNumber Plate Without BSAU145d Mark?
Hi, I have a 1984 Kawasaki KLR600. When I purchased the bike it came with 12 Months MOT and what looks like a personalised number plate. However, recently I got stopped because the number plate didn't have a 'BS AU 145d' mark on it. The police officer let me off and told me to get the plate changed. He told me that the size and lettering was fine. After doing some research, I came across a forum where a few said that if the vehicle is over a certain age it doesn't need to show the BSAU mark. Is this true? Only asking as I like the plate and I'd rather try and keep it if I can, but if not then no problem.
6 AntwortenInsurance & Registrationvor 8 JahrenMotorcycle Battery Charging?
Got a 12V 4Ah battery for a motorcycle. On the specifications list, it says 'Maximum charging rate: 0.5 Amp'. I only have a 1.25amp motorcycle battery charger, is it suitable to use on this or should I refrain from using it to avoid damage? Should I purchase a trickle charger instead, that charges at an output of 500ma (0.5amp)? As I'm not sure wether the maximum charge rate is how much it can handle, or the rate it charges at. Thanks!
2 AntwortenMotorcyclesvor 8 Jahren100cc Scooter - Low MPG?
Hi, I've got a 2 stroke scooter as a little run around, a Benelli K2 100. It was bought as a project, but I didn't touch the engine at all. The thing is, I've noticed that it will only do around 20-25 miles to a full tank! A tank costs around £5 to fill until it's near enough overflowing. I ride it around 3/4 throttle almost all the time, do you think this is the reason why? Or should It still be getting more MPG then that? It's also running a tad lean at the moment, so I think running rich is out of mind. Thanks.
8 AntwortenMotorcyclesvor 8 JahrenCan I Drive A 3 Wheeler Car With Motorcycle License?
Just checking, Is it possible to drive a 3 wheeler car with a full motorcycle license? I have had the license for 2 years, and the 33BHP restriction ended last month. If not, is there any other vehicles I can drive legally?
8 AntwortenMotorcyclesvor 8 JahrenDoes running lean mean better performance?
I've been looking at a few forums and some people stated that if a bike is running a little lean, it will have slightly better performance than one running normal or rich. Supposedly they run track bikes lean? Is this true? Just wondering..
