  • Why are grocery stores using ungrammatical signage?

In recent years I have noticed that stores are labeling their aisles with ungrammatical signs that say things like: Can Soup, Slice Cheese, etc. It makes me think the producers of the signs must come from some foreign country where English is a second language. Do they not understand that the container for the soup is a can, Once you put the soup in the can it becomes canned soup? It is canned soup that we go to the grocery to purchase. Why has this backward way of expressing an obvious error become accepted? Any ideas?

  • How to redirect water so it doesn't collect in a yard?

We have a house that is shaped like a boomerang. It sets on the downside of a hill, about half way up from the bottom, facing the top of the hill.. Every drop of rain runs down the hill towards us. We also have a huge U-shaped driveway. Rain and snowmelt have resulted in a super-saturation of the yard within the U of the drive way many times. Once the lawn is super-saturated, the water seems to move under the driveway and then through some cracks in the basement walls. A regular rainy day does not cause a problem. There has to be a lot of precipitation to cause a leak. The leaking lasts for 10 to 12 hours and we manage it by vacuuming it at the two places the basement leaks. We have tired to keep track of the amount we collect and it is easily 50 gallons. A miserable job! Vacuuming isn't as bad as listening to them roar. We have considered some kind of catch basin to be installed to collect the water in the front yard before it can reach to house. We have also considered having a high berm placed in the yard to deflect the water to the sides and down the hill on both sides. Anybody had this kind of problem or have the experience in landscaping/drains to help us? No we are not able to pay for someone to dig out around our basement and repair the two leaks. We have also been advised that to do so would only result in some other part of the basement being stressed until it finally cracks and leaks also.

  • We have the Verizon Hot Spot for our internet service.?

Almost every time we are on the desk top, it disconnects every few minutes. This is more than annoying. Does anyone else have this problem? Some days, it works great, but on the days it keeps kicking us off, we get very frustrated.

  • Teens with Asperger's Syndrome how do you cope?

We know a boy with Asperger's and he has no friends at school. It is so sad, he just turned 13. He likes the other kids, but they react to him as though he is too different to be a friend to. He sits alone at basketball practice, the coach doesn't allow him to play in a game more than a total of about two minutes, no one ever chooses him for their side in any school competition, not one of his classmates ever invites him to come to their house. What is his crime? He is highly intelligent and knows a lot about science and history that other kids don't want to hear about. He does talk constantly about things like paleontology and does not pick up on the signals the kids are sending him to stop. He sometimes gets directions confused and makes mistakes in his school work. Other kids rarely seek his company/ At lunch, he sits reading a book at the table because that seems better than just staring into space when no one includes you in the comraderie.

  • If you had $15,000 to invest for 5 years, what would you invest in?

I want to help my 35 year old son have a secure retirement. I have $15,000 to invest, yet I would not want to risk loosing the principle. It is my intention to look out for his financial future, not loose the savings he has accumulated. This money has set idle in a bank for 10 years.

  • Does anyone have a recipe for gluten-free bread that is worth eating?

Most I have tried are heavy, dry,and make a poor substitute for the "real" bread. The loaves I have purchased at the store are way too expensive for the poor quality product you get. Help!! I love sandwiches, but now that I know I have had Celiac disease my whole life, in order to feel healthy I must not eat gluten containing foods.
