Can I Use Oxiclean to Kill Fungus/Yeast on Cloth Diapers?
My son got a yeast infection. First on his front end and that finally cleared up and now there's one on his butt. I read on one site that suggested 4-6 drops of tea tree oil in a cold rinse, then a hot wash with oxygen bleach, cold rinse, then sunning or drying in high heat in the dryer if that isn't possible. Is Oxiclean an okay oxygen bleach to use? That's what we have in the house and I want to kill all the fungus out of his diapers. I was hoping to kill it all out then just use flushable liners with the cloth because the disposables are wreaking havoc on my poor guy's bottom since he's highly sensitive to the chemicals in them.
6 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 9 JahrenHow much wetfood should I feed my cats?
The women who helped me when I rescued my two cats told me that they should be eating more wetfood than dryfood because it has more protein and water content whereas dryfood is just carbs and isn't so healthy for them. I bought some Merrick canned catfood and am wondering how much should they get if they're also getting a small amount of dryfood each day? They're about 15 lbs each if that helps. Thanks!
4 AntwortenCatsvor 9 JahrenDoes teething cause a baby to spitup more?
My son is 7 1/2 months old and definitely teething. In addition to drooling a ton, chewing everything, red cheeks, and crankiness (and the teeth spotted in his gums), he's been spitting up an extraneous amount. Is there any relation between that and the teething?
2 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 9 JahrenHow can I make breastfeeding successful next time around?
I have a 7 month old son and throughout my entire pregnancy, I had planned on breastfeeding him and not letting him get a drop of formula. Then everything went haywire when he was born because he was in the special care nursery for 4 days, 3 nights with hypoglycemia and my colostrum wasn't enough to maintain his bloodsugar so I had to supplement with formula. Even though he had a perfect latch, he didn't suckle correctly (which I blame on the doctors & nurses giving him bottles from the beginning) so I had to keep pumping to stimulate my breasts & to get the milk into a bottle so he could drink it. I was told that once I could get him to suckle correctly at the breast for 15 mins per side, then I could stop giving formula but he never did, just constantly fell asleep or at times would refuse to even try. Pumping hurt too much & was a p.i.t.a. because I had a broken ankle & I hated having to hobble from my 3rd floor bedroom to the kitchen (on the 1st floor) to wash pump parts after each session so in the longrun, my son became a formula fed baby. I don't think that formula is evil, but I would like to make sure that in the future, I can successfully breastfeed my babies (for many reasons). I learned that there is something called a supplemental nursing system (never knew of that after giving birth to my son). Next time around, should I buy one just to have because of the fact that anything can happen after birth so that if they make me give my child formula for any reason, I can keep the baby at the breast and never need to pump, also teaching the baby to nurse?
3 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 9 JahrenWhy is there a difference in expiration for babyfoods?
I alternate between Earth's Best, Happy Baby and Beechnut for my son and they all say different things regarding how long before food must be tossed after opened. For example, all Earth's Best food can stay in the fridge for 3 days, Beechnut fruit is good in fridge for 3 days, but Beechnut veggies for 2 days, etc. I am just curious as to why this is.

I have a while yet before my little guy will be going to preschool, but I am just curious as to which type of preschool is better for a good early childhood education experience as an intro to school and the NJCCCS and why.

My son is almost 7 months old and had either his first night terror or nightmare last night. Now I just need to know what the difference is between the 2 and if I need to handle things differently depending on which he has. I mean, do I wake him up if it is a nightmare or a night terror or is that not ok?

7 AntwortenPsychologyvor 9 JahrenWhat kind of fruit would help keep my baby boy regular?
My son is just about 6 months old and has recently started oatmeal (started it one week ago as of tomorrow) after having gotten veggies & brown rice cereal for a couple of months. Because of the iron in it, it appears that he is a bit bound up. On Tuesday when he turns 6 month old, I will be starting him with some fruits. Are there certain ones that are better for helping him stay regular (other than prunes)? Thanks!
9 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenAny suggestions for making & storing babyfood?
I get wic so they'll pay for jarred fruits & veggies. However I feel that homemade fruit & veggies babyfood would be healthier if I can get wic to pay for fruits & veggies for him instead. Should I get a Baby Bullet or Baby Brezza system or can I do this with a regular food processor & icecube tray or some other storage system? Also which foods are okay as first foods?
4 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenHow exactly do I mix rice cereal?
I was told by the pediatrician that when my son is 4 months old to start him on rice cereal. He told me start with 1-2 tsp at breakfast & dinner time then to work up to 1-2 tbsp by 6 months of age. What I am not clear on is whether I warm the formula first then add cereal to make a soupy consistency, or do I mix cold formula & cereal then warm that up and stir to soupy consistency? And does that mean I use 1-2 tsp of cereal to a certain amount of formula?
4 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenEasiest way to transition my son from co-sleeping to crib sleeping?
I never had intended to co-sleep; however, my son had GI issues and bad gas pains until switching to wide Dr. Brown's bottles a couple of weeks ago so being in mine and hubby's bed was the only way he could sleep since being tummy to tummy with me comforted him. Now, however, he's a lot bigger (3 months old & has grown like a weed) and his tummy issues have been solved so I would like to make the transition for my son to sleep in his nursery. I don't believe in doing a cry-it-out method before 6 months of age so I need any help and success stories! I started trying 2 nights ago and that night, my son did 2 hour stretches of sleep at a time which wasn't bad. However, last night he was up every 5 minutes screaming no matter how much I comforted him back into a deep sleep. After hours of running back and forth to the nursery, I was exhausted and at my wit's end so brought him back to my bed where he instantly passed out and slept for 6 hours before waking to feed (and that was 9 hours after his last bottle). He has also never napped in a crib or my bed; I've always had to rock him to sleep then put him in his baby swing where he'll sleep for a few hours or go for a walk with him in the stroller. How long could the transition from co-sleeping to crib take? Please help!
2 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenHas anyone had luck switching baby from Prevacid to a different acid reflux med?
My son was put on Prevacid 6 days ago for acid reflux and he is doing worse than ever now. He has been projectile vomiting since this morning & has been more miserable than ever before since being on it. I am calling the dr in the morning to ask what else we can do. Has anyone ever had something like this happen and had good luck with a different medication?
3 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenHow long should a baby take to drink 6 oz w/Dr Brown bottle?
My son is almost 3 months old and we use Dr Brown's bottles. He was taking 45 minutes (with burp time added in) to eat with level 1 nipples so he would often just get bored & fall asleep - it usually took him 15 mins to drink each 2 oz. I decided to try levl 2 nipples and he drinks it in 10 minutes and that is counting burp time. Because it's so quick, he often cries for more when he is done because he hasn't had time to realize he ate too much. So what do I do? Go back to level 1 or stick with level 2? How long should it take him to drink every 2 oz?
5 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenDoes this prevacid compound dose schedule seem ok?
My son was just prescribed a 3 mg/ml compound Prevacid to be taken once a day. He is 10 weeks old and weighs 12 lbs. However I keep reading that babies metabolize the medication quickly and it's better if a dose is split to 2 or 3 times a day. Does anyone who has experience with this know if the dosing schedule is ok? Also any recommendations for immediate relief? I have read that 1 ml of cherry supreme Mylanta can be given but I am leary of that, especially since I don't know if there are rules as far as spacing it with Prevacid. I've been giving Mylicon up the wazoo at dr recommendation but that doesn't do anything for him. Gripe waters aren't safe for him to take because he also has renal problems. =(
2 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenDoes the way you hold a Dr Brown's bottle really matter?
My son is 2 1/2 months old and we switched to Dr Brown's bottles. Formula kept getting in the resevoir tube & not draining out which blocked the tan piece so air got in. My son has been spitting up enough to soak 5 burpcloths today & 3 bibs from all the air. I tested with water in the bottle while on the phone w/a customer service rep from the company to see what's going on and she said that's not right. They're sending me new bottle parts because she said it sounds like defective venting parts. However when my husband got home, he tested it in water. Turns out I wasn't holding the bottle at a 45 degree angle but lower. When he put it up to 45 degrees, the tube drained out without a problem. He did it a few times with a few of the bottles. So can anyone who actually uses Dr Brown's bottles tell me does the 45 degree angle vs a bit less really make a difference or was it just a fluke?
2 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenIs it teething or gas?
My son is 10 weeks old and had a gas problem from about 10 days old. We now have him on Similac Alimentum & Dr Brown's bottles and they helped him a lot. However a couple of parts are defective so not all of the bottles are working & the company is sending me replacements.
Suddenly he is spitting up more both when he eats and long after, drooling a lot and spitting up excess saliva. Not only that but he has been crying nonstop, biting on everything, rubbing his eyes, wanting his pacifier and starting to suck then crying & spitting it out then wanting it again then spitting it out and so on and so forth. He didn't sleep at all last night. He originally was sleeping from 7ish til 12:30 AM then eating then sleeping til 4 or 5 (all in his own crib) and now he just won't. He also won't sleep in his bassinet in our room. I had to hold him all night as he pretty much just cried. Up until yesterday he had happier moments where he would smile & giggle but now there is none of that.
My mother-in-law put brandy on his gums this morning and said it would numb them but it didn't & he continued to cry. That makes me think that it is gas doing this because I remember when my dad put whiskey on my nephew's gums he instantly stopped crying.
So is this teething or gas or both???
8 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenWhy does my 2 month old cry in his sleep at night?
My baby boy is 2 months old (well 10 weeks old now) and every 5-10 mins or so, would start to cry in his sleep for a few seconds then stop & get quiet then in a little bit it'd start again. I checked once and his eyes were closed and he wasn't in any way awake. Could he be having nightmares? Or is something else going on? Will this affect him getting quality sleep at night ???
5 AntwortenNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenHow should I store Dr Brown's bottles in fridge?
I switched my 10 week old son to Dr Brown's bottles because both Playtex Drop-Ins & Ventaires gave him air. I could actually hear air in his belly w/those 2 bottle systems. These were working but lately formula is going up the blue vent tube & getting stuck which causes a blockage and bubbles get into the formula. He is on Similac Alimentum so hubby and I are wondering if the formula is just too thick and that's why it gets stuck. Or is it because we make bottles ahead of time to put in fridge with the venting system in place in the fridge if the cold is something causing something to go haywire with the venting system? No matter how tight or loose the nipple collar is screwed on, this has become a regular occurence. Any feedback from parents who use Dr Brown's bottles is appreciated!
1 AntwortNewborn & Babyvor 10 JahrenDr Brown's bottle - air bubbles getting in & leakage?
I switched my 9 week old son to Dr Brown's standard 8 oz plastic bottles this week on Monday. The past few days there have been 2 problems: #1 they leak from the nipple collar and it dribbles down the bottle, all over my son's bib & leaves a ring of formula on the table when I put it down... #2 one air bubble always escapes from the collar into the formula. His gas problems were initially solved since the switch but now he's getting gas pains again because of this happening. I have tried giving cold formula rather than warming it and it still happens, have tried making the nipple collar tighter, loser, etc and nothing helps. I've triple checked that the ventine pieces are put together as tight as can be, that the nipple is all the way through the collar, that the collar isn't crooked, and yet still these problems exist. When I warm the bottle, I remove the venting pieces and loosen the collar. Then add the pieces back after warming. I make it so the bottle is just warm, not hot. I'm getting so aggravated with this it isn't funny and I need some help! What am I doing wrong???
