Oh wow, there's a bio section here. To tell you the truth, I only started coming on here because of some of the infamous quotes (where does babby come from, etc.), but it seems I've become an intermittent addict myself. Aside from lurking on the internet, I'm a lover of sci-fi shows like Doctor Who and Lost, a reader of fantasy/horror/sci-fi books, a writer of dozens of rather bad half-finished stories, an amateur photomanipulator, and a nerd. I enjoy being bothered by people, and I'm normally a pretty patient person, so bother away silly yahooligans. (If you recognize where my avatar comes from I will love you forever.)

  • What is this animation technique called?

This might be difficult to explain. I remember seeing an exhibit in Disneyland this summer that had models of Toy Story characters in walking poses around a table, which would rotate the same time a strobe-light turned on and gave the illusion of movement. I want to say it's called rotoscoping, but I don't think that's it. Any ideas?

  • Why won't these files show up in iMovie?

I'm trying to make a video of some footage I got with my phone. The files are .3g2 and iMovie seems to want to accept them since they aren't grayed out, but they never appear in the event I try to put them in. I tried to convert them to MPEG-II, but that didn't seem to do anything either. Any ideas?

  • Is the LG EnV Touch or Samsung Rogue better?

I've been researching phones for the last few days, and I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two. I'm leaning toward the Rogue at this point since the Touch seems to have problems with its screen and battery life. I'm aware that the Rogue is discontinued, but they still sell it on Samsung's site, so it's not much of a problem.

Does anyone own one of these phones and can testify if it's decent or not? Please don't suggest something different like the iPhone because that's way too expensive. The only other one I'm thinking of at this point is the Reality.

  • Would paying extra for 2.66GHz make that much of a difference?

I've decided that I'm going to buy a 13" Macbook Pro with a 320 GB hard drive in the next few days. I just can't decide if I should pay an extra $255 to get 2.66GHz. I'm leaning toward "no," since looking at the number and considering spending it for a marginally faster computer seems insane. Would 2.4GHz be super out-dated in a few years? I'm using a Dell with 1.73GHz right now, so I'm guessing pretty much anything would be better than this.

While you're at it, would 320GB be enough for at least 4 years of college?

  • How many buses would be in a city of 450,000?

I'm doing a sustainable city project with transportation involving biofuels, but I can't find the average amount of buses in any city aside from Beijing, which is way too large to use. Anything close to the number I mentioned would be fine.

  • Which of these tablets is the better deal?

I'm thinking of getting a tablet, and from what I've heard, Wacom is the best for its price. After looking for a few hours I've narrowed it down to these two. If I do get one, I'd probably be using it for photomanipulations and drawing, nothing professional. I already have Photoshop, so the included software doesn't really matter to me. If anyone has any suggestions aside from these two, feel free to tell me. And anyone care to say what so special about the second one's included mouse? I really don't know why they added that.

  • When will the new Macbooks be released?

I know Apple still hasn't announced them, but I'm going to be getting a new computer soon, and I've pretty much decided on a Macbook. I just can't tell if I should go ahead and get one now, or wait until the new release. The trend seems to be that they come out around October, but that's too late for me.

    Any decent rumors or speculation?

  • How can you make a PDF file smaller?

I need to upload a file to a website, but its file size limit is 500 KB. My document is 3.82 MB, and I can't take out any pages. I figure that I can just degrade the quality by a ton and it might work, but I don't have the premium version of Acrobat, so I don't think I can do that. Is there any alternative program? Can I fix it with the free version of Acrobat?

  • What's this short horror film with mannequins called?

I want to find this one short film again, but I can't remember what it was called. I remember the beginning had this guy driving and almost falling asleep at the wheel. He ran into what he thought was a person, but he gets out of the car and sees it's a mannequin. Other paramedic mannequins show up to help the one that got run over, but they only move when the guy isn't watching them. Eventually he ends up in a mannequin family's house. He freaks out and attacks them with a bat. At the end, the police find him and it turns out he'd just killed a bunch of people, not mannequins.

Any help? A link would be great. I think it was from around 2007.

  • Would an admission essay largely about religion be too controversial?

I'm working on the common app admission essays, and the prompt I've pretty much decided on is "Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence." But instead of going the normal route of a favorite teacher or parent, I'm going with a least favorite teacher who taught me how to debate points.

The thing is, she taught a Bible class, and her religion was basically a cult. I don't mean "Oh those silly Christians" kind of thing, but a full-fledged crazy 10-member cult. My essay would be about how I listened to her points and then did Bible and historical research on my own to back up my own points, all while avoiding peer pressure to just shut up and do what she says.

I'm just not sure how far to go into her doctrines, if at all, or if I should just stick exclusively to what I did and not what she said. But then that might make ME come off as some zealot.

I'm just really confused. I hope I made this clear enough.

  • Why can't my laptop find the wireless network?

My computer won't connect to the local network even though it's very close and I've used it for over a year with no problems. When I go to connect to a network, the local one doesn't appear. My neighbor's does, but not ours. It connected for about a half hour yesterday, but hasn't worked since. I use a Dell running Vista, but a friend of mine with OSX had the same problem. This only affects the wireless computers; all the desktops work fine. There was a power outage a few days ago, but that's the only thing I can think of that would have done anything.

    Any ideas?

  • Can someone help me with this pre-calc problem?

    f(x)=x(x+2)^2

    a) Find the x- and y-intercepts of f.

    b) Determine whether the graph of x touches or crosses the x-axis at each x-intercept.

    c) End behavior: find the power function that the graph of f resembles for large values of |x|.

    d) Determine the maximum amount of turning points on the graph of f.

    e) Use the x-intercept(s) to find the intervals on which the graph of f is above and below the x-axis.

Well, my teacher decided to not mention any of this on his lecture, and my book might as well have been written in Latin. I just really need to see an example of how to do this. If you need to draw a graph, just say so, you don't need to show it to me. I just want to see the process you went through.

  • How do you do this HS Physics problem?

A skateboarder is moving at a constant velocity of 1.75 m/s when she starts up an incline that causes her to slow down with a constant acceleration of -0.20 m/s^2. How much time passes from when she begins to slow down until she begins to move back down the incline?

I have no clue how to do this, and my book isn't very helpful. Can someone show me the steps to solve this, preferably the formulas you used? Thanks in advance.

  • What's the best type of earbuds (for iPod, etc.)?

The kind Apple makes is pretty expensive, plus I don't like their new type that actually goes into the ear. My old earbuds are pretty much falling apart. The wires are showing and the rubber things around the speakers are gone. So, anyone know a comfortable type that won't fall apart?

  • How do you find the intercepts of x^2 + 4y^2 = 16?

I need to find the intercepts and be able to test for symmetry. I just can't figure out how to simplify it. It looks sort of like a circle... but I have no clue.

  • Anyone know of any ocean-related myths?

Specifically ones that expand on mystery or danger or awe... that sort of thing. Please don't name the obvious ones like Atlantis and mermaids. Anything ranging from Lovecraftian stories to old fisherman folk tales would be fantastic. If you think of anything that doesn't really fit with the critera but still seems interesting, please tell me.

Quotes from things like the Bible and Shakespeare's works would be great too.

    Thanks in advance. :)

  • Is it possible to convert .m4v files (video podcast) to another video file (like .wav) or an audio file?

First of all, I'm not doing the illegal thing with iTunes movies. I downloaded a video podcast from a site, and I need to convert it to a file type that would work with Windows Movie Maker. I found one converter that works, but since it was the free version, it only converted half of the file. If there's a way to convert it to an audio file, that would work just as well. Thanks in advance. I'm at a loss for what to do.

  • Can a FireWire cord work with a PC?

I'm doing a video project for school, and I know close to nothing about camcorders. My teacher lent me both the camera and a FireWire cord to upload the film. However, my Dell laptop doesn't have the correct port. I've tried every USB cord in my house and none of those fit in the camera port. Is there a hub you can buy which would accept the cord which I could then attach to the laptop? Or am I out of luck? I heard somewhere FireWires only work with Macs...

  • Does anyone know the name of this play (50s era)?

From what I remember, a man is hated by his whole neighborhood, but he's not seen until near the end. It turns out he's a convict who was in jail for the last four years and only recently came back to his family.

Another character began to have his doubts about throwing him out of the neighborhood. He was bossed around by his wife for most of the play. The glasses he wore were symbolic of something or other.

The end has the wimpy guy standing up for the convict as the rest of the town is about to stone him. One of the rocks break his glasses.

The setting is post-WWII. I'm guessing the '50s.

If anyone knows the name, I'll be very grateful. I read it in 9th grade, if that's any help.
